Kernus wanted women in skimpy costumes. He couldn't care less about the mythology and such.

Definitely. Still, he shouldn't have brought this up for once!! Even if people don't know that much about myths and tales, you have to question yourself of some things shown there.

Problem was that Kernus didn't care. He just wanted skin.

Yeah and Kernus was horrible at adapting the fairy tales, Greek mythologies, and so on. Honestly, the Charmed Novels did a better job at them and you can tell put effort and research into it and I'd rather have seen the novels been used over a majority of the crap Kernus did. The opposite for me, I like the Paige Years novels over S4-S8 and S1-S3 over the Prue Year novels (with the exception of a few). I suppose since the authors of the novels didn't have Kernus getting involved, they had freedom. All they needed was someone to tick off the novels, I doubt Kernus looked over them. Yeah, I've heard mostly good things about the novels, even the later season ones. No Kernus, WB, or budget constraints meant that the novels could do a lot more with the setting and characters. I wish the comics had followed the novels' lead, but they insisted on being a post-series continuation and got saddled with a lot of the show's baggage. They were fantastic. I loved how the writers did their research with mythologies. We even got some great backstories on the Ancestors. We even saw the sisters leave their city on vacation. I wished they followed the novels, the comics. So sad, Paul was great with 9, but 10 ruined Prue. We fans waited so long, and Paul did a great job bringing her back, but it all went to hell. No wonder we got no S11. Which Paul Ruditis tried his best to fix, despite have one hand creatively tied behind his back (he has said that, if he could have, he would have retconned that flash forward and Brad's Brood Of Brats out, but it wasn't his call to make).
Then Pat Shand came in and undid whatever good will that Ruditis had built with the fans. No wonder the comics folded soon after.
Oh yes. Pat Shand (Kernus 2.0) ruined the comics. I can't forgive him for what he did to Prue. That sounds exactly like what Kernus would have done. The novels did good, I have to agree, yet I only own two. As far as the mythology thing goes, BK had no knowledge at all. I even try to correct some things in my fanfics, regarding at least to the Valkyries. The island they used was for me a branch for the great hall of Valhalla. I own about fourteen of them. He really doesn't. Valkyries were just Amazons to me, dressed right out of Xena. They do not dress like that at all. It's great you had fun correcting it. Problem was that Kernus didn't care. He just wanted skin. Yes. The Valkyries were Amazons to me. Honestly, was so embarrassed, as a Xena fan. Since Xena did both. Kernus didn't care he wanted skin.

Xena's Amazon's were way better than Charmed's Valkyries IMO.

Though one thing was right with collecting the souls, yet I doubt it in such ways. From what I read, the souls immediately went to Valhalla when fallen on a battlefield.

Obviously, the island was a place between Earth and Valhalla like the ghostly plane to get warriors used to been dead before they went to the real thing but Charmed writers chose not to have the island named as an in-between but actually Vahalla itself when fans know that's not the case obviously.
Just imagining Shannen/Prue dressed as a Valkyrie in whatever skimpy costume Kernus had her in makes my skin crawl so I'm glad she never had the opportunity.

It was bloody stupid and hardly worth one episode, let alone two.

It was bloody stupid and hardly worth one episode, let alone two. I'm with you. To tell you the truth. I don't like any of the two part episodes they did. Lol, episodes I felt deserved/should've been two parters, weren't. Kern pulled the same two part opener stunt in all three. A Sister runs away from her family at the end of part 1 e.g Phoebe as a mermaid, Piper as a Valyrie and Paige out of the manor. Part 2 convincing said sister to come home. And both the mermaid and Vakyrie episodes had a resolution at the end of part 1 that wrapped up the story. Kern just bored us having a sister run away/not wanting to come home, just to stretch the plot out in part 2.

True the two-part Mermaid episode dealing with Mylie and her love for Craig and nearly losing her immortality to the Sea Hag who was subsequently destroyed was okay as a one-time thing. There was no need to add Piper's water fear which was Prue's really and Phoebe then becoming a mermaid also into the mix actually.
And I agree with episodes that weren't two-parters should've been them like 'Charmed And Dangerous' or 'All Hell Breaks Loose' obviously.

When you start your season off with a mermaid episode, it's a clear sign that it's all downhill from here.

I agree with you all in regards to the two-parters and lots of better episodes they could have made into two parters. In CCDOW we've had fun making some episodes in S1-S3 two-parters. And I'm with you guys, I'm not nuts on any of the canon ones.
And I agree Piper's fear of water was a re-do of Prue's. And I personally felt Prue not being able to say I love you, seeing Patty in the pool and conquering her fears, was WAY better than rehashing it with Piper. It shouldn't have happened.

Another case of "Prue" being crossed off and another sister penciled in. In this case, Piper.
Who did Kernus think he was fooling?

Nope, he sure didn't.
I'm sure most fans were angry that the one year anniversary of Prue's death was non existent in the opener. Tell you the truth, I don't think she even got a mentionn at all. But we all know Kernus didn't care and wanted us to forget her.
Mentions of Prue after S4 were rare.
