I'm surprised there isn't already a thread about this show (or maybe I just missed it??). Anyway, I'm sure you've all heard of it, but if you haven't, here's a quick summary from wikipedia: "Set in the 1980s in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, the first season focuses on the investigation into the disappearance of a young boy amid supernatural events occurring around the town, including the appearance of a girl with psychokinetic abilities."
I've started watching it recently, just finished the first season, and really liked it! It's a lot of fun, and I love the setting (I'm a big fan of the 80's)! Highly recommend it if you enjoy science fiction and horror.

I've seen seasons 1 and 2 and am now on season 3 having watched episode one needing to view the rest.
Not having Netflix I downloaded Stranger Things and watched it that way then.

Never seen or had a chance to check this out, but heard of it, and know it is set in the 80s. I was born in the 80s, but I hardly count myself as one, since after all, what memories do you have when you are born at the very end of this decade.
I presume with how long this show will go, it will make it to the early 90s.
So, are their actual aliens in this show? I'm curious if they have any little easter eggs on E.T. like a gag or line or something since that was the biggest hit in the 80s.

From what I have read, this show could be set in the world of today. However, as I said, they would have to deal with cell phones and such.
Setting the show in the 80's sidesteps this issue.

Did anyone get to watch Season 4 of this show? I can't say much about it (to prevent spoilers) other than the fact that it really brought back loyal viewers of the show that had stopped watching it by the time Season 3 came out. Let's just say Season 3 went in a direction that was not so faithful to the past two seasons so people gave up on the show as a whole and then Season 4 came out and went back to the show's roots.

I hear or have read online a lot of people enjoyed season 4 and how certain characters' heroes/villains made that a good season overall.
The 80's music in the show was also received well, especially two particular songs which I won't spoil but have seen YouTube clips of getting a resurgence for said artists earning them some new followers of course.

Same here, Katherine,. I hear people enjoyed it. I've never checked this show out though apart from Youtube Clips. I mustadmit the 80s music is so cool, that I've been more into listening to the music online than checking the show itself out. LOL

It's Eddie Munson, the town's resident heavy metal fan and Dungeon and Dragons Dragonmaster playing Master of Puppets by Metallica to distract demons so his friend can escape. What's impressive is that Master of Puppets had just came out and he learned to play the song that quickly, it's a long, complex song that's hard to play. Everyone in town thinks Eddie is a loser since he's poor and lives with his uncle in a trailer with his parents in jail, but he's actually quite intelligent and saves his friends

The fact people called Eddie a loser but he still helped Hawkins dying in the process when he needn't do shows the character growth the man had in season 4.
Fans want him back but are afraid Eddie could come back as some kind of revenant like in MK11.
My mum was never a fan of Kate Bush because her voice sounded like it screeched too much but even so, you can't deny what the song "Running Up That Hill" does in this scene and the significance it has with a nice remix of the tune sort of.

For context, in the mid 80s there was a moral panic about heavy metal and Dungeons and Dragons among conservatives and religious groups in the US. Since Hawkins is a small town in rural Indiana, the locals believe Eddie is a loser and a Satanist because of his appearance, taste in music, poverty, and having parents in jail plus failing school.
It’s awesome Running Up That Hill has become a hit again, the song is awesome and sounds much better than a lot of the terrible Auto-Tune pop out there. And Metallica did get a bump in popularity with Master of Puppets, Eddie is so badass playing guitar to scare the bats. In the mid 80s, Metallica was a cult band with a rabid fan base and normal people didn’t listen to them, it was kids like Eddie who were their biggest fans

Season 5 is coming up later this year and will premiere at around the same time as The Crown Season 5.
I can't wait to see how Eleven and Vecna will battle it out for the last time.
