These guys idolize the pioneers. Of course, they overlook the fact that life spans were much shorter and such. They see what they want to see and whitewash what they don't.

Don't remind of Cruz. As I read this story just recently, I couldn't believe it. I mean, he's the governor of Texas and he's on vacation in Mexico when his people are freezing out there? Why do I feel reminded of Trump here? It's the same attitude. *shakes head*

No wonder that rumour about Cruz being the Zodiac Killer got started.
Of course, it can't be true, as those killings happened before he was born.

Wow, those videos are frightening 😮 The whole house is going to be damaged along with all the furniture and equipment and I doubt anyone can stay in a hotel or even leave the state. Cruz should be recalled at minimum since he’s supposed to be helping his constituents, the damage at this point might be in the billions or more and these people may not have insurance. The bursting pipes look like something out of a horror movie, that water is probably dirty AF too

The bursting pipes look like something out of a horror movie, that water is probably dirty AF too Austin has basically fallen into Third World living conditions, at this point. People were asked to not drip their faucets due to a massive water shortage, which resulted in LOADS of burst pipes. To add insult to injury, the city also had to issue a boil water notice even though the majority of residents have no way to boil water. These posts from r/Austin are just heartbreaking to read: Nobody should be forced to live like this in 2021. A warm home, food, and clean water are all BARE NECESSITIES. There needs to be mass evacuations. A lot of people have been left with damaged and unlivable homes.

Wow, that sounds nightmarish😮 Especially the person from New Jersey whose apartment building in Austin got flooded with water and carbon monoxide and the boyfriend had to rescue the elderly neighbor, that is terrifying. And people waiting outside for hours at the store sounds like something out of the Soviet Union. Cruz better get his ass back to Texas and help out, those are his people. This is unacceptable in the US, there has to be over billions of damage or even more right now and so many people are homeless. The politicians who did nothing should be kicked out, this is not rugged individualism, this is a desperate situation where people really need help

The politicians who did nothing should be kicked out, this is not rugged individualism, this is a desperate situation where people really need help ^^^^^^^ As I said in another thread, Austin has basically turned into post-Katrina New Orleans. Loads and LOADS of people stranded without supplies in damaged, unlivable homes, and nobody is doing a damn thing to help them. No electricity, no food, no water, no shelter. What are these people supposed to do? Slowly freeze to death? Or, get felled by carbon monoxide poisoning, starvation, dehydration, or pneumonia, instead? And, that's not getting into the massive cleanup and repair problems that await many people once this weather finally passes. Busted pipes are going to leave toxic mold behind in their wake. We could see a wave of Texans developing lasting respiratory problems, like what happened to Katrina's victims. And, all while COVID is still going around. Just angering to think about. ALL of this could've been avoided.

This is definitely scary and I'm glad that these people could help their elderly neighbor, yet that they didn't reach the emergency and more. Really frightening and this in 2021! Now these people are back to their 'roots', though no one wants this nowadays. The local government needs to act and this NOW!!

Ironically people might have been better off if such a storm hit in the 19th century since most stuff wasn’t electric and people used wood and coal stoves anyway with the only places using electricity being the telegraph office and maybe the local theater. But since everything runs on electricity now, the whole grid shutting down is a catastrophe. That idiot mayor must have thought it was the 19th century but he doesn’t realize people don’t use wood or coal stoves anymore, people desperately need help. This is starting to look like Katrina again, if Biden handles it better than Bush did Katrina, it’ll engender a lot of goodwill and maybe his opponents might temporarily shut up.

With every thing that's gone horribly wrong in Texas... at least it's happening under a president who cares about them. You see, this is the difference between Biden and Orange Man. Biden is the president of ALL Americans, not just the states that voted for him. Contrast this with Orange Man, who didn't show a speck of concern about COVID until it started hitting red states. And, whatever "concern" he showed was little more than part of his re-election campaign.

Orange wouldn't give a damn. Might get in the way of his golfing.

And that's one thing a president should do no matter which state voted for who obviously.
Looks like people made the right decision this time on having the correct person in public office.
I'm sure if this had happened in Obama's period he would've done the same thing then.

Obama was there after Sandy hit. He cared.
And Biden will do the same here.
