Oh this show is spoiling us. Can't wait for the flashbacks.
Looks like they'll CGI the actors to look younger.
I love the nods to the first comic right down to the car.

I think they mean another thing about Morgan Edge that Clark doesn't know about yet then.
They CGI'd Carrie Fisher's face at the end of Rogue One and did the same with Mark Hamill in the final scene of the Mandalorian season 2 so it's not surprising if that happened here of course.
It would be interesting seeing if how Clark became Superman is different than how everyone knows already after Papa Kent dies actually and will Martha sew Clark's suits or like the Man Of Steel will his first suit be in the Fortress Of Solitude otherwise?
Either way, I'm looking forward to it obviously.

A nice look back. We saw how Clark created his Fortress (an echo of the 1978) movie, him getting his job at the Daily Planet, and how he met Lois for the first time. We see the birth of the twins.
However, this just isn't a trip down memory lane. Rather, Tar-Ro is using a Kryptonian device to probe Clark's mind, to find where he could be vulnerable. And he does find it. Tar-Ro realizes that the best way to get to Clark is to go after his family. And Clark is still too weak to stop him.
The first thing Tar-Ro does is destroy the Jor-El A.I., robbing Clark of his Kryptonian father. Then he sets his sights on Lois and the boys. When he arrives at the farm, Lois and and boys bravely tell him to leave (even though they have no way of making him do so). Jordan even tries to drive him off with heat vision, but his powers are nowhere near a match.
When Clark does arrive, he's still too weak to stop his rogue half-brother. Tar-Ro offers Clark a deal, submit, and Lois and the boys will be spared. Having no other option at the moment, Clark accepts. Tar-Ro grabs him and leaves.
Arriving back at Tar-Ro's own fortress, we see that there is an A.I. of his own evil father there. Tar-Ro then begins to turn Clark.
Back at the farm, Lois is afraid that what happened on John's Earth is happening again, and she calls John to tell him so.
-nice to see Clark's human mother again.
-starting to like Kyle, believe it or not.
-Jordan and Sarah make it official. Awww...

A Brief Reminiscence In-Between Cataclysmic
I loved this episode so much, this might be the best episode yet. And I’m officially going to make a bold claim, this is the best first season of any DC show on the CW network to date. If the quality keeps up into S2 and beyond, I’ll say best DC on CW ever, but I can’t make that claim until I’ve seen the show progress and grow.
This is it. This is the gold standard of Superman origin stories. It's awesome how they took classic Silver Age stuff and mixed it with modern Superman stories like Superman Smashes the Klan, to make something all its own. Then it seamlessly segues into another Superman classic that it remixed into its own thing. You can tell the writers love Superman so much. It washes all the bad taste out of mouth over how much I hated the movie Superman we got a few years back with a horrible origin story. This is the modern Superman origin we need and deserve.
Honestly I feel like this show set the bar higher for everything Superman that comes after it and that includes movies.
Also, my suspicion that Tal-Roh (Clark’s brother) still isn't quite who he claims has grown this week. Especially after Jor-El's "he is none of those things" line. If so, I’ll be overjoyed if that is true. Actually, Lara's reaction is one of the things that made me suspicious of it, because she just glossed right over him. The way Clark worded it was "Zeta-Roh...my...brother...you had another family?" And then she proceeds to talk about her relationship with Zeta-Roh and no mention of a son. To me that suggested she knew of another kid's existence but didn't want to get into the whole mess of it, lol. She just wanted Clark to know where her heart was. There was just something suspicious to me about her avoiding that whole topic, while going into detail about Zeta.
I really like the fact that we’re finally seeing Clark’s past in Metropolis and his past with Lois in more detail. That was definitely something I wanted to see for awhile.
I loved seeing Inside the Planet, where Perry White blows off Clark's resume, but hires him when he agrees to work cheap and do whatever he's asked. Cut to the scene from the pilot, where he first meets Lois and is immediately smitten. Loved it!
Clark’s memories of his sons birth, that got to me so much.
The Movie-style montage of Clark learning to use his powers, evolving from the teen into Tyler Hoechlin's adult version, and eventually taking flight was cool.
Poor Clark returns to Smallville after finding the Fortress and learning who he was. Came back home reunited with Martha. Finds Lana on the streets waiting for Kyle now engaged and having moved on for the past five years. I reckon this is why he decided to not tell her the secret which I feel he would have here had she not moved on and got engaged to Kyle while Clark was gone. Clark moves to Metropolis after and Martha gives him his suit.
Loved every minute of Clark's first year as Superman that we saw and Lois and Clark growing closer.
I loved seeing Lois meeting Martha for the first time. She has set up a small get-together to welcome Lois, and afterward tells Clark that she's wonderful. Clark tells Martha that he brought her to Smallville to tell her who he really is, and as they hug, Lois comes in to see them and I can tell. He takes her outside and flies for her, then we see the pair of them in the newsroom, kissing, and again to him proposing outside the Fortress door, and to their wedding. This was so well done, the way they edited it all together.
Also the growing relationship between Jordan and Sarah was okay, with the fact that they’re officially boyfriend and girlfriend, but best it’s not forced and getting in the way of other storylines, so if it is mostly off-screen and not a big part of the story, I’ll be fine with it.
Jordan figuring out how to control the solar flare was interesting. I didn’t see it coming so soon.
Lol the moment where Jor-El told him get out of here now sounded so much like when Robert the Bruce was warning Wallace in Braveheart
Edge dropped by to the Kents, and when Lois told him to leave, and he threatens the kids. I was scared. He tells Lois that he'll let the kids live long enough to watch Lois die. As he charges up heat vision. Freaking me out in the moment. Superman arrives and tells Edge that he will do whatever he wants to save his family.
The ending was definitely a shock, wasn’t expecting Clark to submit to Edge without a fight. The next episode should definitely be an interesting one. I’m sure his family is going to find a way to help Clark, and save him.
Lois calling Steel to stop a rogue Kryptonian rather than his Kryptonian cousin Kara. I’m sure social media and Reddit is going to troll, whine and complain why she isn’t here as usual. And as usual, I get why they can’t bring her in due to covid, and spoiling what will happen to Kara when her shows wraps hence why she isn’t mentioned. Hard to align the two shows up and "Real life" wise it's to deal with Covid filming restrictions by having an actor crossover that's not in any of the crew bubbles on the other shows. And I kinda don’t want Supergirl to appear in S1, as this show needs to find its own feet before throwing in all the guest cast.
Was heartbreaking when Edge said to take one last look at his family to Clark. And the comfort Jonathan and Jordan provided to Lois. Loved how Lois stood between Edge and her sons when he was about to harm them. And Jonathan protecting Jordan when he was knocked out.
And were on break, but I’m somewhat glad, as getting my COVID jab on Thursday and have other real life stuff to do, that it timed well. And they left us with such a great episode to end on, before the break.
Odds and Ends:
*All the Easter eggs and nods to past movies and from the comics with Superman’s flashbacks and early days as Superman. (I haven't got time now to note them all down against canon comics, but so many, maybe I'll update this review later)
Overall thoughts: Another amazing episode. Not sure if I’m the only one but I teary eyed up like 4 times throughout this episode. Tyler’s Superman is so warm, hopeful, and caring and his chemistry with Lois is amazing. The origin was perfect. The suit was perfect. You can tell the writers love this character and his mythos. It’s sad that we have to wait like a month for the next episode but that’s okay, I’m so excited to wait and see the last four episodes.
Grade: A+ (And a few episodes back I thought I found my A++, we’ll you can add this one to the list in contention for when I make my mind up at the end of the season)
Moments: 1. Clark’s memories of his sons birth (made me cry as a young father myself) 2. The montage of Clark and Lois falling in love and Clark telling Lois the secret. 3. Lois and Martha meeting

This show one heck of an episode. This show is AMAZING. The first half of that episode, with all of the happy flashbacks and Easter eggs for fans. The second half of the episode, with Clark sacrificing himself for his family and moving the season plot forward. The ending with Lois calling John Henry Irons because Edge turned Clark.
My mind is reeling from how FANTASTIC this episode is. This whole show, and especially this episode, was written by fans FOR fans. Waiting for the next episode is going to be hard but so, so worth it.
I'm so impressed with the flashbacks, they were amazing. Man of Steel who? This was the best modern version of the origin story of Superman, that mixed the old with the new so well.
Grade: A+

I love the beginning. It's like a flashback that just fills so much.
Also it makes me wish the show was set in Metropolis instead of Smallville. Metropolis is so much richer an environment than Smallville.
Edge being deranged is interesting. To be fair, he turned out surprisingly well for... what he lived through.
Lois getting between Edge and the boys was also so wonderful. It's just a good thing to see.
I don't like how they are trying to imply Kyle is a good guy now. He was used, and maybe the experience caused him to change, true, but he still has a lot to answer. Forgiveness is good, but wanton leniency is connivance.
Talking about Jon, it's funny that even in the next episode preview Jordan gets a hug but Jon doesn't.
Jordan and Sarah is meh. I don't care, I won't mind if it's completely relegated to off-screen from now on.
In regards to the Daily Planet, I really want more of them. I love how tight knit the crew is. I need Perry as Clark's surrogate father in Metropolis, and Jimmy as his little brother, Ron and Cat and Steve. I wonder if we'll get more, with the young Cat Grant actress, since they don't have to get Calista back for that.
Grade: A+

Honestly I feel like this show set the bar higher for everything Superman that comes after it and that includes movies. I feel the same way. Easily trumps the other CW DC shows with the best first season yet so far. I agree, they got the origin story down so well. MILES and MILES better than Man of Flop I mean Man of Steel in terms of writing the origin story, not to criticize Henry Cavill. Also, my suspicion that Tal-Roh (Clark’s brother) still isn't quite who he claims has grown this week. Especially after Jor-El's "he is none of those things" line. There was just something suspicious to me about her avoiding that whole topic, while going into detail about Zeta. Yeah, we might have a twist yet to come. We shall see. This show loves to make you think one way and do a complete twist to make you go what? like Captain Luthor not really be a Luthor. It was edited and flowed so well. Me too. As long as they do not make them take the forefront of the story, and get in the way of the real stars the Kents. Yeah, people need to get why it won't happen due to covid and the two shows do not align and changes with covid delaying shows etc. (hard for the writers to keep up with the storylines on each other shows0, no DC show on CW has mentioned plotlines from the other shows. And they can't mention Kara because they don't want to spoil plot lines with her show. Yes, they could mention her but how, because S6 wasn't meant to start until later this year, it taking over S&L's timeslot was so last minute. Even if they did already mention her, they'd have to have re-edited or cut her mention out changing it from Kara is busy atm, or Kara is in the Phantom Zone. I'm sure once S2 comes and we know the fate of Supergirl when her show ends (does she die, go off earth or continue on in National city), they'll do something. It honestly doesn't bother me as much as it does for some people who I don't like they are trolling and being nasty to the S&L writers and cast online and social media ranting they don't care about Kara. Since I know, they'll do it once they can.

We pick off where last episode ended with flashbacks showing Clark's life before and after he came Superman.
The first shows us teenage Clark in Antarctica creating the Fortress Of Solitude reminiscent of the 1978 Superman film which was nice seeing younger him again.
Whoever wrote this show certainly knows Superman's mythos which I assume their fans off.
The sequence with teenage Clark running and then seeing Tyler learn to fly the first time must've been inspired by the Man Of Steel film but of course this Superman's much better than Henry Cavill's although that's not his fault just bad writing and character development on the film's part of course.
Coming back to his mother Martha who we see again got me feeling inside.
Clark you will find someone to love just as well as you did Lana which happens when we meet Lois at the Daily Planet like in the pilot episode.
So mum made his first suit from the 1948 action comics series.
Saving the green car on your first day in Metropolis now that's news worthy. Loved seeing it again.
The telephone box afterwards and Superman speaking a foreign language later on. Guys your really showing the references.
Why did I get Lois and Clark feels when Clark was trying to get a job at the Planet like when Lane Smith's Perry shot Dean Cain's Clark out the first time before he wrote the story on the actress in the due to be condemned theatre building?
Love watching bumbling Clark.
I like Lois not instantly favouring Superman and how minor stories are more important to her than him whilst Clark runs along poppy doe eyed saying, "How can I help there then?".
Seeing their interactions with one another and growing relationship made me happy. Kiss her Clark. As well as them finally getting married and having the boys.
And like the 1978 film Lois names Clark Superman.
Okay what's that glitch about?
Martha clearly likes Lois.
I'm glad Clark told Lois he's Superman instead of her finding out another way.
AI Jor-El knows something's going on i.e. the glitch been why he told Clark to leave the Fortress.
So the whole flashback sequence has been a hallucination all along created by Tar-Ro to probe Clark's mind for any weaknesses? Smart and crafty.
I swear Tar-Ro's more becoming like General Zod and the fact Clark submits to him to save his family proves that for me along with AI Jor-El saying his not who he appears to be.
Come on Superman fight him. Clark's still too weak from the Solar Flare previously.
Is the show wanting us to like Kyle then? I know what he done was for his family but there's a lot he'll have to make up for that.
I'm okay with Jordan and Sarah so long as they don't overtake the series and be on/off all the time then.
So Tar-Ro has his own fortress in the desert?
Careful Jordan your not strong enough to go up against Edge.
Lois and the boys will save Superman I'm sure.
This's how John Henry's earth starts?
I already hate AI Zeta-Ro.
Of course Lois would call John instead of Kara one because he's already experienced what'll happen and so will know how to help and two whilst COVID's still active Arrowverse shows can't crossover which I understand.
Like Supergirl season 1 barring Barry Allen Superman season 1 should find it's own feet before having guest stars pop up although I know John Diggle will crop up soon though. Also if all of what's happened on Superman and Lois has taken place whilst Kara was in the Phantom Zone then Clark wouldn't know about that another reason Kara's name isn't mentioned though you just know people on social media or somewhere like Reddit will disagree with this naturally.
I'm not happy the shows on a month's break although do understand with regards to filming and COVID and everything. It'll be worth waiting for if the writing and character direction keeps at the pace it's currently in.
Will Supergirl retake S&L's time slot or something else then?

This felt like a love letter to fans with the easter eggs and flashbacks.
I loved all the flashback sequences. Was so fun to dive into the origin story. Sorry Henry Cavill but Man of Steel left me rolling my eyes and bored me, this origin story left me cheering, smiling and feeling so much emotions.
I hope Jor-El is not gone for good. Keep in mind that Jordan still has a similar red crystal that he took from Clark's pod in the Series Premiere. Hopefully that will be what brings him back.
Kyle possessed by a Kryptonian soul must have really knocked some sense into him, both figuratively and literally. Hope this makes him a better husband, father, and man. But I got the sense they might just do that so when he's killed off we feel sad.
Edge has his own Fortress in the American Southwest? What should it be called? The Fortress of Domination?LOL
Now wonder Lara left Zeta-Rho for Jor-El. Zeta could pass as Palpatine's handicapped brother.
Zeta-Rho bores the crap out of me already.
So it stands to reason that what happened to Clark by the end of this episode (forced by Edge to be corrupted by The Eradicator) is the same thing that happened to the Clark on John Henry Irons' Earth. Maybe.
Speaking of Irons. I can understand Lois calling him up. What happened on his Earth is coming to fruition on Earth-Prime. Yet I'm sure the reddit and twitter crowd will complain again that she didn't reach out to Supergirl. Again even if COVID and the shows did run at the same time. I somewhat don't feel like I'd want her appearing until the show finds its footing. The same way Superman didn't appear until S2.

Kyle is actually becoming a decent human being. Nice that he wants to own up for trusting "Edge".
Lois and the boys were very brave, considering that they were standing up to a being that could kill him all wiht no more difficulty than we would step on a insect. And he has no qualms against doing so. Tar-Ro only backed down when Clark agree to submit to him. And, as I said, Clark had little choice in the matter, it was either submit, or see his family slaughtered.
As for anyone whining where Kara. Just say that this is happening while she's trapped in the Phantom Zone. Problem solved!
I suspect the outcome will be different. The Clark of John's Earth had no family to protect.

Okay, caught now up. Yep, sometimes I felt stronlgy reminded of the good ol' Superman movies with Christopher Reeve. And that was nice. So, we got to see how Clark became Superman, a husband and a father to twins. Though he guessed, deep down, that someone could play with his mind - and he was right. Tar-Ro is using all means to get and make his brother vulnerable and what better way to use the family of his. Though Jordan is no match, he's trying to help, yet Clark is needed here and well, I don't like the outcome. But well, Jordan and Sarah is now official a couple, or becoming one.

Looks like Lois needs some help, gee if only she knew of another Kryptonian who wore a red cape, who was maybe even related to Clark in some way.....na can't think of anyone.
