Yeah, the fans are not happy at all. I don't watch Batwoman, but reading I get why Ryan had to stay as Batwoman. But it seems most fans accepted that, but I think why Kate fans are upset , is they had so much hope all season, and sitting through her being tortured and brainwashed, and just when they get their real Kate back, she is written off almost immediately. And the way they ended things with her and Alice, with her sister abandoning her, and her father is written off the show too.
Maybe the showrunner will change her mind. She's gone back and forth on if Kate is dead, alive, recasted, staying, leaving. Who really knows.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised she does change her mind and brings her back. They can't seriously leave her quest to find Bruce Wayne never resolved.
At this rate, wouldn't surprise me they attempt to do a spin-off starring Kate and Alice or some version of Batman Incorporated. That played well in the comics when Bruce disappeared and reappeared.
In that comic series, one of the primary themes present is Batman traveling across the world seeking to use the symbolic power that Batman has on a global scale. He had agents doing missions all over the world with some members based in Gotham City and others worldwide. This would be the perfect thing to do with Kate and let Ryan be based in Gotham while letting Kate have a new path.

A good thing to do once Bruce is found. I think that would make a great spin-off series.

Well, they did it. They managed to restore Kate. Of course, they did it with the help of Alice. Loved the scene where, when Kate revives, she looks at Alice and calls her "Beth." That showed that Circe was finally gone.
Why did they let Alice be arrested like that? Without her help, they would never have gotten Kate back. Also, Alice was the one that finally stopped Black Mask for good.
Fitting punishment for Black Mask, forever stuck in that mask. Won't be missing him.
Of course, they did have that final scene, in which Ryan visits Alice, who is now in Arkham Asylum, and Alice drops a huge bomb, Ryan's birth mother is still alive. No doubt next season will have Ryan trying to track said birth mother down.
They found a good way to write Kate out. She is leaving Gotham to try and track Bruce down. That way, she can be brought back if needed. She does share a good bye with everyone though. Kate says that she's gonna visit a friend in National City first, no doubt meaning Kara (does that mean she's gonna show up on an episode of Supergirl).
And Kate officially relinquishes the title of Batwoman to Ryan.
Jacob Kane remains in prison. No doubt that will be addressed next season. And I wonder if Alice will play a role here.
Liked Luke's new suit.
And Mary's clinic will become part of a youth center, as Ryan suggests.
A good season finale. Now ruined by this news.
So Jacob is just going to be left in prison?
No real closure for Kate and Alice? If this was the plan all along, then they should have had Kate spring Alice from Arkham and take her along out of Gotham.
Show runner should be fired.

Alice being arrested was the writer's way of thinking, okay yes she brought Kate back and took Black Mask down for good but had also done a lot of things prior via her Wonderland gang which she needs to be held accountable for.
With Kate leaving I did see a comment on YouTube in the clip where she hands over the bat mantle to Ryan which I thought was very valid and actually made sense come to think about it in terms of her story and how the writers could've just recast Kate from the get-go using Wallis Day and the plane crash as their motive with Kate badly burnt she ends up in a unit where she has multiple skin grafts to repair the damage which Jacob, Mary, and Luke are informed off explaining why she looks different post-recovery with no tattoos on her whether that happened episode 1 through a time jump or a little later after Julia pretends to be Batwoman like that one stint in season 1.
Kate could've suffered PTSD from the crash which the show explored whilst having the Safyiah/Ocean/Coriyana storyline on the side as well as the Roman/Black Mask/ False Face/ Snake Bite one later also meaning Ryan's not introduced making the Batwoman plot more believable and something Kate fans might accept despite the showrunners thinking not now Ruby had left the show of course.

Just seems so pointless now. It does. With ratings already so low. It's the lowest rated DC show on CW atm. I don't know how they'll recover after this. They already angered half its audience. Won't surprise me this gets canceled after four seasons. They should have kept Kate and Jacob on S3 for half the season and wrapped up the Kane's plot. Just make it a subplot separate from Ryan's story. Because fans ain't happy. At this point Alice has zero purpose and should be written off too. But they won't as she's so popular with fans. But she really serves no purpose.

But she really serves no purpose. It has become clear that they do not care about the Kane's story or to give it closure. I don't get why they couldn't have let the Kane arc wrap nicely in the first few episodes of S3. Also if they insisted on being done with her in S2, why did they waste time all that time with her being brainwashed and then brought back in the last five minutes of the season, just to send her packing for good. They should have had her come back an episode or two earlier, and then build up the real Kate being back and getting true closure with Alice and her dad before she did. Alice freaking had a own separate subplot and had zero interactions with the main cast in many episodes when she was on the island looking for Kate. Why they didn't let Kate and Alice have a separate subplot and do the same, and give Ryan all the A plot and focus as Batwoman, so they don't outshine each other. Wrap them up properly and send them off. I don't blame fans for being upset, feeling cheated and baited. The showrunner clearly clears very little about the Kanes which is what the show was all about when it started. I hope the showrunner reconsiders. She needs to stop taking tips from her former boss Julie Plec when she worked on Vampire Diaries on how to screw over your fans and ruin a show. Wallis loves playing Kate and she loves the cast (they adore her) and as for Kate, she's just going to look for Bruce, so whether she can find him or not, she HAS to eventually return to Gotham, to tell us why. You can't leave her story like that. To just leave her off looking for Bruce, abandoning Alice like that, and dumping Jacob in prison for no reason at all. Is just bad writing.

Show runner should be fired. I felt the same way, loved the episode, until the last five minutes, after learning what they had done to the Kane's story. That Jacob and Kate are not coming back. Why Alice didn't go with Kate. I don't get it, she has nothing to offer. And we all speculated that we thought a good ending was Kate and Alice going off together, and bonding their renewed sisterly relationship. LOL we all can write better than the showrunner. This showrunner is turning out to be just like Julie Plec in how she writes and screws over viewers like Vampire Diaries (she must have learned that from her when she worked on that show). Jacob staying in prison for good makes no sense to me. How is this a great ending, the showrunner is nuts.

You both have good points there. Whether she'll appear on other shows (Kate) is to be seen.
Fans also want one last crossover with Kara in Supergirl because of the friendship they struck up from Crisis and before giving that closure also which probably won't happen.
If season 3 only gets half the audience of season 2 I wouldn't be surprised and would understand of course.

Yes, that is what they should do. I mean if you're gonna end the Kane storyline then give them all a decent send off. Don't just drop them like this, it makes no sense.
Pissing off the fans is one thing this show cannot afford.

Exactly. If they insist on ending her story, do a decent job at it. Otherwise they should have just killed her right away n episode 1 of S2 and not jerked Kate fans along all season. They can't afford to piss them off. The actress Wallis Day keeps telling fans she loves the character and would come back. So it's all on the showrunner who appears to not care about her character and wanted her out the way asap. I hope she reconsiders and brings her back to give fans the closure they need.

If Wallis wants to come back, even on just recurring bases, then go for it. Kate could come back and give a progress report on her search for Bruce. And she and Ryan should team up from time to time.
Two Batwomen for the price of one.

I'm sure quite a few fans would rather have the showrunner replaced with someone who either brings Kate back season 3 and does a proper storyline on her or a decent send-off at least with her and Alice then.
