Not sure what to say. This could ruin the already established chemistry the Kent's have. A re-cast just doesn't sit well with me.
Why couldn't they just let Jon go back to Metropolis as he had wanted to do before? Then maybe the actor can resume the role in S4, after he takes time away for his personal matter.

I’d rather he not be part of the show tbh. I think their chemistry as a family was my favorite part of the show. Having someone totally new just doesn’t feel right. It's going to really feel odd to recapture that chemistry. It's why I was always against recasting Prue on Charmed. It's going to really make S3 feel so awkward.
It really sucks more because Jordan was a great actor. And I loved Jon's character. Now, I'm not sure how I'm going to accept a new actor in the role.

It could be delayed. This really must've been such last minute. I'd imagine Jonathan will just not be in the start of S3 until the new actor is hired or a delayed production start. Hope the actor's okay. He'll be missed in the role as Jonathan. The recast won't go well with fans. But I guess after Batwoman and Ruby Rose this time they opted to recast right away. We shall see. S3 will have a very weird vibe. The chemistry will feel strange since now new Jonathan's actor has to recreate what the rest of the cast has had for two years already. |

Imo no actor is bigger than the character, its the character that matters, the casting department have done a great job so far, so I have faith that they will cast another good Jonathan. Yes it will take some getting used to, but as long as they find someone good (which really shouldn't be too hard) then I think it will work out.
I'm kind of glad they're just ripping the band-aid off and going straight for the re-cast, its exactly what CW should have done on Batwoman but failed to do, and it really killed viewership of that show.
This may well be the final season anyway, with Warner Bros-Discovery canceling anything and everything that isn't part of their film universe lately.
I do wish Jordan the best and hope he is able to get some help.

That's what they should've done with Batwoman. They basically killed the show by removing the lead character who fans tuned into for to begin with. Viewers like me came back when they had Kate back recast. But they did her dirty sent her packing again. But moving on. I'm glad they re-cast and didn't kill Jonathan off (he's far too central to the story) even though the new Jonathan actor has massive shoes to fill including developing chemistry with the rest of the Kent family. I trust the writers. I just don't know how it'll go with fans. We'll have to wait and see.
I do think they shouldn't rush the re-casting and take as much time as needed. If it means delaying production so be it.Production starts in September. I'm sure they are all in panic mode.
Only two weeks ago Jordon was talking about returning to the set for S3. This really must have been a sudden change. I hope he's okay. I know he'd been dealing with some mental health issues. His health should come before continuing the role. It's smart he gets out now instead of staying on and making it worse.
Yeah. Titans, Young Justice and Doom Patrol are at risk at cancellation over on the streaming services after the next seasons. DC is ready to wipe the slate clean of everything DC television.
They are even rebranding the DC film universe I believe from what I've seen in the news.

Wow, I didn't know Jordan might be having issues with himself which is a shame to hear.
Of course, he should take time out to deal with that even if it means he doesn't return to the show though he will be missed because Jordan made Jonathan a good character to watch.
I will miss his and Alex's chemistry which I'd gotten used to but hope in the future Jordan's okay and wish him luck in whatever future projects he does then.
Unlike Batwoman which I agree with, Wallis Day having been recast as Kate right away S&L have good writers so I have faith that the team won't just pick anyone to play Jonathan. They'll take their time making sure the new person fits straight in with the series so it'll feel like Jonathan's always been there actually.
The writers will also determine whether the new actor and Alex are comfortable around one another which screen tests will probably exhibit as the brothers have many scenes together. That will show whether they project the same kind of chemistry Jordan and Alex had been fan favourites with viewers obviously.

Let's all calm down here and take a step back.
First of all, this is nothing like what happened with Batwoman. On that show, they lost the lead actor, which really hurt them. That is not the case here. Now if it had been Tyler or Bitsie who left, that would have been disastrous. However this is manageable, as Jordan is not the lead.
Second of all, they don't need to delay production, nor should they. The entertainment industry has been through enough, these past few years. The livelihood of hundreds should not be threatened just because one man needs to get his head on straight.
All they need to do is write the character out for as long as need be, until they cast the new actor. Send Jonathan off to Metropolis, and then say he got in a car accident and needs reconstructive surgery, and he winds up with a new face (which is that of the new actor).
Problem solved.

It's a shocker for sure. But re-casting is the best option. The character is far too important to the story and Kent Family to just kill off.
They just need to write Jon out of the first few episodes of S3. Shouldn't be too hard to say he's off visiting Lucy in Metropolis. That way production can still begin in early September (and they are not in panic mode rushing to get this done in a couple of weeks), while they have time getting the actor for the part and one who has great chemistry with the rest of the actors. They could just hire Alexander Garfin's brother Max. I've seen fans online are suggesting that. Not that they should.

True. Characters are recast all the time on soap operas and tv dramas especially child actors of course.
That's done in the UK although we do have certain child actors who've grown up on British soaps playing someone and continued on in adulthood acting that person out still.
On Batwoman it wasn't like Ruby Rose had portrayed Kate Kane for years only just in crossovers and one full season so she would've been alright to refill had Wallis Day taken over the role straight in season 2 but if someone like Stephen Amell had quit playing Oliver Queen after 7 years with one final season of Arrow left still that would've been more difficult because he was more established as the character.
That would've been different though as the show probably most likely had ended rather than continued running so a supporting character being recast on S&L isn't the end of the world.

They recast General Lane from Supergirl S1. Jimmy was re-cast on Lois and Clark after S1. Also, Lois Lane was actually recast on the old 50s Superman series. After the first season's filming was completed, actress Phyllis Coates made other commitments and did not return as Lois Lane. Noel Neill played the role from S2-4. speaking of Phyllis Coates the actress is 95 years old and likely the surviving member of that old show.
So it isn't the first time it's happened in a Superman series before.
Those shows survived the recasting of Jimmy and Lois, I think S&L will with Jonathan.
One good thing S2 DIDN'T end ON a cliffhanger. So it won't be the case of Batwoman or Charmed where storylines were ended on a cliffhanger. The transition will be a bit easier story-wise going into S3.
But how the fans take it is another thing. I don't think it will be a huge backlash. Recasting Clark or Lois would do more damage.
