I figured I'd put all my reviews in one thread. Make it easier for me, than starting 30-50 threads for every episode.
I'm on S5, but I'm going to try and start my reviews in the order from when I last did one, which was S3 Maternal Instincts. And keep it in order.
I have the original DVDs with extras, and they have commentaries. I love Lucy, she's so funny in her commentaries and really looks like she enjoys herself.
Jean's Season 3 Rewatch
The Bitter Suite
This episode follows from Maternal Instincts with the fallout of the famous Rift. Xena and Gabrielle have parted ways. We never get any idea how much time has passed, but I'm guessing a few weeks.
Gabrielle has returned to the Amazons, and Joxer is present and learns all about what happens from Ephiny. Xena is on a clip and is visited by Ares (so glad the commentary clears up is Ares was really here or in Xena's head) since Callisto is in Gabrielle's head talking to her.
Xena dragging Gabrielle by a horse along the ground all the way to a cliff, and about to throw her off, before Gabrielle awakens and kicks her. This was so very intense and really was well acted.
This was Xena's first musical episode, and this came long before Buffy's. I loved the original songs, and Lucy is fantastic. What's funny is Callisto's actress was dubbed, and they got the voice so spot on you can buy its really her voice.
Xena and Gabrielle fight, and both end up throwing each other over a cliff, they find themselves in Illusia a place Solan created allowing Xena and Gabrielle to talk about their issues and finally come back together and makeup.
Were treated to some amazing songs and singing. I really loved every minute.
10/10, like Maternal Instincts. S3 really is hitting a high, every episode so far is great.
One Against an Army
Starting this episode with a sense of humor having some fun with Gabrielle trying to do a Xena leap and the little Xena toothpick doll was just adorable. I loved it!
The chemistry is outstanding, Lucy and Renne always bring their A-game.
Gabrielle gets hit with a poison arrow, and the two are left fighting an army.
The two stories of the episode really worked well, the main storyline with Xena battles the Persian army to Xena facing the choice of delaying the Persian army or saving Gabrielle. Excellent emotional performances slowly building which drew the two main characters into amazing dialogue and scenes.
The episode parallels The Greater Good except for this time its Gabrielle who reminds Xena of the greater good. I really liked this.
The fight scene at the end with Xena fighting the army was great. I really think this whole episode came together wonderfully.
Another 10/10, well acted, great fight scenes and a great episode to have post-rift.
