Exactly, I think most barely even know of that film. Honestly, and luckily we have the amazing Origin comic, that is partly based on that film but more closer to the series.

Joss Whedon was lucky he got a second chance with Buffy. And, with the TV show, he had full creative control.

I agree, although it's a shame it was done as a comic instead of either a TV movie or a one-off prequel episode (like " The First Secret" from PLL). Most people who watched Buffy probably weren't even aware of any of the comics, let alone read any of them. No comic will ever be as accessible or mainstream as a TV show.

Imagine remaking the movie, only with SMG instead of Swanson. People would be happy to see the "real" Buffy in the lead.

I guess Whedon wanted to distance himself from it after the debacle with the Kuzuis, but the movie begged for a "reboot" with the show's cast and tone. As I said, it could've been done as a TV movie airing between seasons.

I could see the fans tuning in to see that. It would be the "real" Buffy, which no doubt many consider SMG to be. Yes, she wasn't the first Buffy, but she is the one that fans associate with the character.

That's true, they could have had a television movie airing between the seasons, like say between S2 and S3, we got a tease of it in Becoming. It could have been nice if they released it as a Summer movie special. Missed opportunity to produce a proper Buffy/Angel crossover event, and do it as a TV movie, airing it between the seasons.

I'm sure Buffy fans would have tuned in to see it.

I don't get how people think the way they do... I am a little disappointed, even though I never really was a fan of Kristy Swanson, but I do love the original movie so much! It's what got me into the TV show in the first place. I know it's not what Joss Whedon wanted, but it's still a fun movie, with fantastic atmosphere (in my opinion).

I imagine a lot of fans saw the movie first, and then watch the show when it started. Of course, they ended up loving the show better than the movie. Which, no doubt, is when you say "Buffy Summers", people will picture Sarah Michelle Gellar, not Kristy Swanson.

That's right, and most might not even have heard of this movie at all. Too bad, imagine if they rebooted the film as a Buffy television movie with Sarah, and based it all on that comic which was more in line with the show not the movie with Kristy Swanson. I remember hearing rumors a long time ago, they wanted to do this, but it never could get going.

No doubt to many fans, Sarah IS Buffy. You mention Kristy Swanson and they'll say "Who?"

To my shock, Kristy Swanson actually took a break from her usual racism and feminist-bashing to wish Luke Perry good luck on Twitter: Somehow, I don't think he considers you a "dear old friend," too. BTW, Luke is literally the ONLY good thing about the Buffy movie. He was cute, snarky, and hilarious as Pike (a much punkier character than Dylan McKay), and it's a shame he never appeared in the show.

Oh look, Kristy Swanson actually gives a damn about someone other than herself.

I hate to wish this on anyone, but a part of me really is wishing that Kristy is the one in the hospital right now instead of Luke. As I said, he was the only one in the Buffy movie who actually gave a damn (and he's actually showed up at Buffy conventions since then and met the show's cast... he seems to be a fan of the show), and he's always been just one of the sweetest guys ever. And, his career seemed to be making a nice comeback with Riverdale and that Tarantino movie. Meanwhile, Kristy is a washed-up old hag who has done nothing in the last 5 years but spew hatred on Twitter. She is a vile person, and if anyone deserves to die before their time, it's someone like her.
