Nearly forty years before Agent Carter and the upcoming Supergirl show (which had yet to debut when I originally wrote this) , there was Wonder Woman, starring Lynda Carter in the title role as Diana AKA Wonder Woman.
I remember watching this show with my friends. We enjoyed it.
Interesting story behind the production of this show. The first season, on ABC, was set during World War II, and thus was expensive to make (because of the period costumes, cars, etc). The network thus cancelled the show because of that. Then CBS stepped in and told the producers that they would be happy to pick the show up, on the condition the setting was changed to the then modern time of the 1970's. The producers agreed, and the show continued on CBS for another two years.
The premise of the new format was that, after the end of World War II, Diana had returned to Paradise Island (where she originally came from). There, she had not aged in the thirty years that followed. In the first episode, Diana once again leaves Paradise Island for the outside world.
However, the same could not be said for Steve Trevor, her mortal boyfriend. Since they wanted Lyle Waggoner to continue on the show, they had to find a way around this. Solution, the Steve Trevor that appeared in the CBS version is the son of the one on the ABC version. This provided some interesting scenes, when modern Steve first meets Diana and realizes that this is the same woman his father had known, thirty years earlier (the elder Steve had died at some point before Diana returned to the outside world).
One silly premise, as Diana Prince (WW's secret identity), WW just put on a pair of glasses. And yet no one, not even Steve Trevor (either of them) recognized her! Putting on a pair of glasses does not change your appearance that much! Mind you, Superman did this too.
I know that this show was on before most of you were born, but surely you've seen it in reruns. What did you think of this show.
