That's right, he left for a few years. Whedon missed a big opportunity here, when he didn't ask Luke to join. I agree. *nods* I guess Whedon wanted to just sever all ties with the movie at the time. He may have also thought that Luke would overshadow SMG and the rest of the Scoobies, who were mostly unknowns before Buffy. Just imagine... We could've gotten Pike on the show and kept crazy S9-10 Dylan from happening. Sounds like a win-win to me.

It sure would have. No doubt most Buffy fans would have been happy to see Pike back with Buffy again.

Speaking as a massive Buffy fan (actually my favorite fictional character of all time), there was soemthing sorely missing from the show after season 3, and that was a consistent love interest once Angel left, now, I don't think Buffy "needed" to end up with anyone, I'm not Kernus! But if there had been someone, I think Pike would have been the best choice. Riley was a wet rag, Spike was all kinds of messed up, Pike would have provided a human stability to her slayer duties, keeping her grounded.
If only we could have had the real Buffy and Pike on-screen together.

I only saw the film and a few episodes here and there and so wasn't a religious Buffy watcher though it would've been nice to see Pike appear on the show whether it was once or as a reoccurring character.

Pike could've been brought in for S4 after Angel and Cordy left for the spinoff and the Scoobies graduated from High School. And, in this fantasy scenario, 90210 would've also ended when it should've (ie. either S7 or S8), so Luke would've been free to do Buffy at the time. Perfect.

Perhaps there is a parallel universe where that happened.
Shame we can't go there.

Perhaps there is a parallel universe where that happened. Shame we can't go there. It's the same parallel universe where Brenda and Dylan reunited in 90210's series finale, Tom Sloane was never introduced on Daria, Kernus was fired from Charmed after S2, and the WB bought out UPN in 2006.

And that last one mean that the CBS Swindlers never got their claws on Star Trek.
Also, George Lucas never sold Star Wars to the Mouse.
