Very nice. Maybe they will. I heard Pike had appeared in the comics before for Buffy or a novel story?

It was this comic, which was based on the original movie script:

Sadly, the comic didn't do much with him, and he swiftly vanished without a trace after that. I actually think he was Buffy's best love interest, and it's a shame we never got to see him with SMG's Buffy. As I said, it'd be nice if the reboot comics could rectify this.

The character of Pike actually did appear in a Buffy novel called Sins of the Father, he travels to Sunnydale to get Buffy's help with a demon that's after him in LA. It was pretty good if I remember rightly.

Isn't it ironic that the real Buffy is best friends with Luke's 90210 girlfriend? And, I love her Instagram tribute to him. Of course, SMG's a Brenda/Dylan fan, too.

Your right Adam, Pike was in a novel of Buffy called Sins of the Father.

Buffy's old boyfriend from Hemery High in LA, Pike, makes a surprise appearance in Sunnydale, much to the everyone's shock, particularly Buffy's. Only Pike hasn't come to catch up with Buffy; he's being pursued by a rock demon known as Grayhewn. Pike had originally killed the demon's mate after it had killed his friend and now the demon wants Pike dead in the most painful way possible. As soon as Pike makes his appearance though, Buffy struggles to deal with her old feelings for Pike as well as her love for Angel, creating nothing but confusion within herself.

I did more digging from wikia, and Pike appeared in many more comics.

From what I've seen they did a prequel series of Buffy's time before Sunnydale. 

After burning down her school gym Buffy was expelled and is now finding it hard to cope with her Slayer duties since her Watcher, Merrick, is dead. She escapes to Las Vegas along with her friend Pike. They work in one of the casinos which, as it happens, is run by two vampires. Angel is also around in the background helping her out although she does not know it.



At the end, Pike realizes he cannot stay with Buffy, and that even friendship between them might endanger the both of them, so he leaves Buffy alone.

Angel, Faith, and Pike continue to look for Buffy, whilst the Slayer battles vampires in Hell.

Buffy must continue her journey through Hell and meets help (Angel, Faith, and Pike). It is up to them to return Sunnydale to its natural state.

She needed someone who respected her and could give her some sense of stability, and Pike was the one who came closest to that. The show should've never left him out.

The only drawback would be that Luke couldn't do it, he was still on 90210 when Buffy started.  Of course, they could have brought him on after 90210 ended in 2000.

He could've also simply done Buffy instead of returning to 90210 in the first place. I hated what the show did to Dylan in S9-10, anyways.

Alternately, they could've also brought him in for the last two seasons instead of hooking Buffy up with Spike (a huge mistake, IMO).

Whedon missed a big opportunity here, when he didn't ask Luke to join.
