Guess the author didn't want to pay to use the show characters.

I guess not. And it's fun to do a new story. Buffy has a benefit from where they left the story, a spin-off is like so easy to do, with a new slayer set in the same universe. They can bring back old characters if they want. I'd be okay with that than rebooting the show.

Yeah, the pre-existing universe is there for the using.

It sure is. I'm actually shocked nothing has come out since the universe ended 16 years ago. Of course, they have done well in the merchandise and comics and books department.
Maybe, a new spin-off will come out someday. The Vampire Diaries universe is a poor man's version of vampire universe and Buffy.

I couldn't agree more.
Can you see Plec's rubbish being so fondly remember twenty years from now?

Exactly. I just don't see it.

Plec, you're not Joss Whedon. You never will be Joss Whedon.

I've been following this reboot comics. I'm behind because I hear that the comic stores are closing due to Covid-19, so this means the print is no longer happening, and it might mean digital releases from here on out.

As if comic stores aren't having enough problems. Digital is already killing them.

That's the sad truth it is killing them. I like the hard copy, to be honest. I get the appeal of the digital. But if they do that, comic stores will be no more and all shut for good.
Just like digital with online streaming. I get joy going to buy comics, books, and DVDs in stores, and like to browse.

Sadly, all that will soon be a thing of the past.

In terms of Buffy or any comics, in general, there's nothing like having a hard copy and the feel of it in your hands especially if someone has a rare edition that's worth thousands of course.
The same can be said with DVD's which negate using memory on internal or external hard drives although taking up storage space is a particular downside to that.

I agree. Of course, I'm part of the older generation now.

I also agree, pros and cons with DVD's than digital copies. But, on the plus side, DVDs offers all the extras, something streaming doesn't or digital copies. For me, If I like a show so much, I'll get the DVD, otherwise, I'll have an external hard drive and have them on that. Since here, it's hard to get new episodes for shows, as they don't air on New Zealand television so quickly after they air in America. So I'll get digital copies. Anyone here who isn't American, knows how annoying it can be waiting for a new season of a show, I'll admit, back in the day, we had to wait months, these days getting to find it online does let us get up to date.

The same can be said about British television but what American shows I do watch I download online from a website I use via my phone each week and view that till the seasons over and then get the DVD boxset afterwards usually around Christmas and my birthday.
You're also right about extras being on DVD's and not digital copies Trinity although I have seen some of those on YouTube after someone's managed to upload that on there then.
