I can understand Marisol not telling Ray about magic, I mean just look at him - he's a crook, willing to sell just about anything, can you imagine if he had gotten his hands on the book of shadows? Considering the kind of person he is, I think Marisol did what she had to do to protect her daughters and her families magic.
I agree. Even though they started warming up to him in the end, at first Mel and Maggie trusted him as far as they could throw him. Mel wanted to dump him off in Siberia and they weren't willing to leave him alone in the house.
I hope they go into more details about this.

Another thing is Marisol was more madly in love with Macy and Maggie's father, who we know already knows the secret and all. We don't know, if he was a witch himself. I don't think, Marisol and Ray had a great relationship.
This is a bit different, then Prue not telling Andy the secret, or Piper with Dan holding off for a year. Which I completely think they went the wrong way about it.

Truth be told, I get these fathers mixed up.
So, Ray is Mel's biological father, right?

Correct Tim, Ray is Mel's biological father. Truth be told, I don't even think the writers knew early on. I'll bet they never planned Mel to be the REAL half sister, and it was originally intended to remain Macy. They muddled it all up on and off, until late S1. Macy and Maggie's bilogical father is named Dexter Vaughn. Who we have seen once in that flashback where him and Marisol worked to bring Macy back from the dead. At least we know Dexter knows all about Marisol being a witch. Although, I'm not sure, if he is a witch or non-magical.

Now all we need is for him to turn up. Wouldn't that be fun.

That would be fun. It looks like Dexter was a much better dad than Ray. I'd rather, it be the other way round, Dexter brought back not Ray. Marisol clearly trusted Dexter than Ray with the secret. I'd love to learn more about their family history, especially Dexter. Maggie never knew her real father, like Macy with her mother.

Is Dexter still alive? I can't remember if his status was ever addressed.

I thought Dexter was dead no? I actually can't remember, I thought the reason Macy went looking for her mom was because her father passed away? Maybe I'm wrong.
I actually know exactly why they ended up having Mel be the half-sister. Back when Sarah Jefferey was cast, and people found out she was to be playing a latina character, there was a small minority who took issue with the fact that she wasn't actually latina herself, there were complaints, so I think the producers thought a way around it would be to just have Maggie and Macy be the full, mixed race sisters, and have Mel be the full latina by revealing she was the half-sister.

I hope they address this. I mean Macy was barely in any scenes with Ray.
Now, if Dexter turns up, be a heck of a family reunion.

I think Dexter is dead, but you know the show can undo that if they want.
I'm not surprised they may have gone that direction given the backlash.
EDIT: I checked the transcript and this is what Macy said about him.
Of course the series might change what they said in the pilot. Looks like he didn't die that long ago, if she found the photo of herself and her mother, after he died. It means he didn't die that long before she moved to the town.
Also, another thing. Did we learn if he was a witch himself or a non-magical? We know, he knows about magic, of course, unlike Ray.

We didn't see a body. So he could still pop up.
