Thoughts for our Australian friends

I heard about this. Hopefully Granny Charmed is okay, but we'll find out when she and her family join us at the Cafe tonight for our re-watch and CCDOW discussions.

Hopefully when summer comes to an end, so will the fires. Appears to be on going on/off.

Yes, not catching a break. And I won't be surprised, summer doesn't end come March, and we get a delayed Autumn.

Granny Charmed and her family did the rewatch last night but not said anything about what was happening her area then.

Well, I pray she and her family is okay.

Some parts of Australia are in pretty bad shape. So glad where I am, we've had pretty normal weather.

Cynlone Esther may be wreaking havoic.

Esther began its life on the Queensland side of the Gulf of Carpentaria, crossing the coast on Monday between Borroloola and Mornington Island as a category 1 cyclone.

Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Angeline Prasad said the low was now expected to move into Western Australia's Kimberley region on Thursday morning, before potentially re-intensifying into a cyclone off the coast on Friday.

"It is still possible for the system to become a cyclone off the WA coast in the Indian Ocean, but it may end up remaining a deep tropical low moving across the Kimberley and then curve back towards Giles and Yulara [west of Alice Springs] next week," she said.

"By the middle of next week we may see increasing rainfall, initially it will be over the western border and Tanami district."

While earlier forecasts suggested the low could re-develop into a severe category 3 or 4 cyclone off northern WA, that is now looking unlikely.

However, Ms Prasad said the system was quite unpredictable.

"What is interesting is this system is maintaining its structure as it moves west across the base of the Top End, which normally doesn't happen," she said.

"Most cyclones, especially weak cyclones, get destroyed by friction as soon as they move over land, so within 24 hours there's not much left, and a 'Vigorous' southerly blows into Sydney with gusts of almost 100km/h

Wind gusts reached almost 100km/h in Sydney on Wednesday evening after a "vigorous" southerly change swept into town just after 8pm.

The Bureau of Meteorology said a cold front moving across the state was bringing with it damaging winds for coastal areas from the Hunter to the Shoalhaven.

I hope she's just without power and nothing's happened to her or her family or they've gone on vacation which the Cafe don't know about although she would tell the rewatchers if that was happening of course.

Seems like Australia can't catch a break yet.

Would she be without power for two weeks? 

We lost power in the Ice Storm of 1998, but it was back in three days.

Yeah, that's true. But, not knowing is the worse part. I just hope Granny is okay. It isn't like her or her family (since all three use Granny's account for our re-watches and CCDOW discussions at the Cafe), they normally let us know if they are away for some time. I just am praying that they are okay.

Unless, god forbid she had some flooding that damaged her home.

I'll keep you all posted if we get any messages. Hoping she's back this weekend.
