WTF???
This is shocking. Not sure what to say. This could seriously kill the show.

Just came across the article myself after seeing a comment on YouTube about it and thought WTF also.
Whether Ruby leaving Batwoman kills the show or not we'll find out next year of course.
I know some fans never liked Ruby playing Kate because she didn't look like comic book Kate without red hair and having all those tattoos which Kate didn't have originally and also not being Jewish in real life but that never affected Ruby even though she quit social media so either she had a disagreement with the show in whatever way, had something going on with herself or family or Ruby didn't wanna be type casted like Christopher Eccelston felt he was the Doctor.
Whatever now some viewers might find it difficult accepting anyone right the way because they're used to Ruby having been in the crossovers and first season of Batwoman obviously.

This is really huge news. WOW! This can make or break the show. Although on one hand, Ruby leaving this early, maybe people will adjust well to a new Batwoman. Since if Batwoman lasts 6 seasons, Ruby will feel like such a small part of the show in the long run.
But, this is tricky, as the chemistry the new actress has with the cast can change the whole series. Melissa and Ruby have amazing chemistry, that it is hard to see how this new one can pull off the Kate/Alice chemistry. That is what will make or break the show, the chemistry.
I gather Kate is getting a new face, and her old one will be burnt by Alice or something. That is a great way to do it, then recasting and making us believe it was always this way.
I really do think the role is demanding on Ruby, she nearly died and got paralyzed with stunts. I know they said this isn't the reason, but I can see why Ruby may not want to do this demanding role for seven years.

WHAT!?!?
Geez, they may as well scrap the show. Ruby has good chemistry, and you can't just recreate that from scratch.

I to will miss Ruby playing Kate because of the chemistry she had with her own cast members and other Arrowvwese characters also like midnight butterfly said especially, Melissa whom fans loved hers and Ruby's growing friendship which I was looking forward to continue seeing as Kara and Kate including both actresses who liked working together too.
Burning Kate's face brutal as it sounds would be a good way of viewers accepting someone else especially if her new look is her real self that's somehow explained in season 2 for whatever that is which I would accept.
If the new actress had red hair that might please some die-hard comic book fans although the Arrowverse is it's own franchise entirely.
Some characters will find Kate's new face surprising whilst others more easily.
Whatever happens, as long as the new person has the same chemistry Ruby did and is believable as Kate I would be fine with that then.

I don't see why they couldn't NOT recast, and just have someone else take up the mantle of Batwoman. Like that happens so often in comics. Why not. Better than hoping they luck out with chemistry with the new Kate.
Like they have had dozens of Batgirls or Robins in the past. They would just as easily use Cassandra Cain. But I don't think they will, as the LGBT component is very important, and it is what they want to use as their face for the series.
But, I'm very concerned. This could be bad bigtime. Time will tell.

Following Ruby, she did talk about the long hours and the physical demands a lot. The Arrowverse shows do sound like a lot of work. Maybe after getting a break she just didn't want to go through it all again. It's the king of thing you'd think you'd be up for until you actually do it. Those first couples of episodes next season ar going to be super weird to watch with someone else. Surely Ruby is going to agree to come back for the first episode (after all she still had to compete two more episodes to finish the first season before COVID-19(, otherwise, it is going to feel so much like Charmed all over again, ending a cliffhanger, and suddenly we have a new person. Although this is different as they are recasting, unlike Charmed with Prue.

Yes, Batwoman could have someone else like Cassandra Cain play the titular hero and have it the same as Black Canary on Arrow multiple people becoming Batwoman having that character being an idea and not a person although some people mayn't like that because Arrow done it already though like you said Terry Ruby may need to come back for episode 1 to help transition from her to someone else perhaps unless the show deals with that some other way plot wise however they do it obviously.

*nods* Yeah, I just feel like that idea might go better, so it won't feel so awkward with a recast, and new chemistry won't have to be formed and hope they struck gold with new casting. It's actually one thing I'm glad they did with Charmed and didn't recast Prue as they originally wanted. As much as I hate recasting, I'd prefer a new character step in, if I had a choice.
Otherwise, bringing back Ruby for the transition is the best way to do this. After all, Hush/Tommy is already posing as Bruce going into S2, so it is easy for Kate to get duped and or attacked or captured, and gain a new face, with her old one being burned. Which actually still opens the door for Ruby to reappear if she wants for flashbacks with Kate's real face.

That's one thing I'm glad OG Charmed did bringing Paige on because they knew fans wouldn't accept someone else playing Prue because Shannen Doherty was her the same can be said with Batwoman having watched this season and the Arrowverse crossovers I class Ruby as Kate having not read the comics previously so she is her to me meaning another person playing a different character who becomes Batwoman might be the better option as you say to get around the chemistry type thing or with the burning of Kate's face they could introduce Ace Chemicals where the Joker got his face after falling into the vat of chemicals there.

This is actually shocking! This has never happened before, and its not like she was only in Batwoman, she was in Elseworlds, Crisis etc and was set to be the future of the Arrowverse, this is insane!
Only other thing I can think of that comes close is that Sara Lance was recast between the pilot episode of Arrow and then when she re-appeared in season two as Caity Lotz, but no-one really remembers this because the original Sara in the pilot had about 30 seconds of screentime.
I saw the statement WB had put out, seems they're going ahead with a recast, so everything that has happened up until this point will remain canon, we'll just have to imagine it had always been whoever they recast Ruby with.
This probably goes without saying but this will go one of two ways, either they cast someone, fans hate her and the ratings crash thus the show gets cancelled. OR the new actress is a great pick and the show remains popular.
I'm surprised Ruby Rose can just leave though, I thought for sure they all had seven-year contracts, hence why Stephen Amell was ready to leave at the end of Arrow season 7 but they begged him to stay for Crisis and he agreed to an extension. And Grant has recently been talking about contarct renewal as well. Makes me a little suspicious that perhaps this wasn't just Ruby's choice.

I couldn't agree more. I don't think fans would accept someone new as Prue, as much as I still hate that they fired Shannen. I'm glad they brought in Paige.
Me too, I really like Ruby in the role, and we don't have anybody else to go by, apart from the animated film that used her. Same way, on Titans I can't see anybody else playing Dick Grayson/Nightwing, as I've gotten so used to him in that role, and how I'd feel if they recast Superman after loving Tyler.
Now that you bring it up. It is the perfect time to introduce Ace Chemicals where the Joker got his face after falling into the vat of chemicals there. Perfect! Would not surprise me if Alice or Hush know about it.

From what I've heard online already people are divided why Rose chose to leave but the four main suggestions I got were either.
1. Filming 8-9 months on a demanding show like Batwoman where you only get a month and a halves break before filming next season was hard psychically, mentally, and travel wise living in another town which Ruby does LA switching between Vancouver and there if Batwoman's shot in both cities along with the accident she had also.
If so she shouldn't have taken up the role knowing full well what would happen before starting some reckon.
2. Queerbashing she got from men of social media about Kate not being gay enough which caused her to quit Twitter although most actors wouldn't let that affect them.
And finally the two that I think are most plausible and what I would believe in is.
3. Ruby had personal issues whether with herself or family which brokered her decision.
Or 4. It was a mutual decision between Rose and the show to leave because neither party thought things were going the way they wanted it and so parted before it got worse then whether that's because of how Kate Kane was written or portrayed being something to do with that is not certain then.

Hate for this to be the reason. It's 2020, for crying out loud. Who cares if the character/actor is gay?
