Speaking of Spain's monarchy, the monarchist movement in my country is starting to emerge since we're lowkey monarchists anyway (ever wonder why winning beauty pageants are a big deal to us and why political dynasties are a common occurrence here?). One of the proposals if a constitutional monarchy were to ever happen here is to have the spare of the Spanish throne become our Queen and marry someone from my country to ensure that the next generation of monarchs have the lineage of my country.
That's mainly because the closest thing we have to a royal family are the tribal monarchies but the danger of picking one of them to become our nation's monarchy is that they'll be fighting over for the throne and it could divide our nation rather than unite it.
And besides, our first attempt at independence was to become a monarchy. Novales Revolt, look it up!

One of The Philippines's attempt to end Spanish rule.
Didn't happen until 1898, then they came under U.S. rule for the next 48 years (I once read that they were originally supposed to become independent around 1940, but World War II changed that).

The Philippines was given ten years starting from 1935 to 1945 to prepare for independence. Had WW2 not happened, we would have gained independence by 1945. The independence promised to us by the Americans was only delayed for a year. We officially became independent of the US on July 4th, 1946.

Only one year off, not bad.
And I think many of your people still see the U.S. as a friend, despite what your crazy leader says (another clown the world would be better off without).

Well, your two countries are not too far away from each other, just across the China Sea, I believe.
I wonder what victoriaalix thinks of her new President. The son of the man they drove into exile, 35 years ago.

To answer your first question, that's correct, Vietnam and the Philippines are only separated by the China Sea (which we call the West Philippine Sea over here; I think the Vietnamese also call it something else but I won't dive further into that). Our new President...is basically a rehash of the one we got in 2010. You know, the whole trust fund baby type. Our democracy is fine but he sure is doing almost nothing (like the one we had in 2010) that our prices are going up. I mean it's cool to get a President who doesn't do drastic stuff but doing almost nothing isn't good either.

So he's not as corrupt as his father was.

Not really, mainly because he was forced into the limelight by his father. So much that he openly rebelled and his father had to write down something in his official notepad about how his own son (and supposed heir) is too carefree.
