This show is fun to nitpick.
There were three people living on that island before the Minnow arrived: Wrongway Feldman, who had been there over thirty years, the artist Alexander Dubov, who had been there ten years, and the Jungle Boy (played by a young Kurt Russell). I wonder if they encountered one another in all that time?
I wonder where Jungle Boy came from. Was he the sole survivor of an earlier ship wreck?
Notice that when a dispute arose, Ginger almost always sided with Howell. Was she kissing up to him in the hopes that, when they got rescued, he would help her career?
In President Gilligan, Gilligan becomes President of the island. This is never mentioned again. Did they give up on the whole idea?
I always liked the episode the Big Gold Strike because in that one, everyone EXCEPT Gilligan screwed up the chance to be rescued. The Professor said that no gold could be taken on the raft, it's too heavy. Gilligan is the only one that follows that advice (Proffy ignores his own advice and sneaks a bag of gold on the raft). When the raft sinks and everyone comes clean, Gilligan points out that for once, it wasn't his fault that the chance to get off the island was blown.
They could have left the gold, gotten a boat, and come back for it. I'm guessing they didn't because greed had made them distrustful of each other (for example, Skipper worrying that the Howells would sneak back and clean out the gold before the others could get there).
Of course, they was that spider that was as big as a Volkswagen. Neyahhhh!
The third season has an episode called The Hunter (a rather dark episode, I think). A big game hunter named Jonathan Kincaid (Rory Calhoun), comes to the island and wants to hunt a human. Gilligan ends up the one being hunted.
At one point, Gilligan falls into a water trough. Kincaid, thinking he's killed him, goes over to "collect his trophy". Gilligan then grabs Kincaid, pulls him into the trough, and takes off. Kincaid tries to fire, but his gun is wet and won't shoot.
At that point, the Skipper and the Professor are right there. Why don't they jump Kincaid and relieve him of his gun. Then they could lock Kincaid up, and use the radio in his helicopter to call for help (Kincaid removed the tubes, but the Professor could easily put them back).

Of course, had they done this, the series would be over. It was a problem they couldn't easily get around, I guess.
Interesting trivia: If you watch carefully as the Minnow leaves port in the first season opening credits, you'll see a flag at half-mast.
The reason for this is because filming of the GI pilot was happening on November 22nd, 1963, the day President Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas. Of course, filming was shut down for a few days because of this national tragedy.
When they started again, the nation was still in mourning, with flags at half-mast, like the one that was filmed here.
