With respect to Vanessa's family, but these Cubans have got to let the past go. Most of them weren't even alive when Castro took over, why are they getting worked up over a land they've never been to.
No matter what happens in Cuba, even if it goes democratic tomorrow, it will never be what it was prior to 1959. That Cuba is gone forever.

I agree, Tim. There’s no way we can get the farm back after so long, our family has been in the US since the mid 60s and we’re American citizens. In regards to Cuba, the best thing is for the Communist elite to die off and hopefully people will overthrow the Communist regime. Unfortunately, according to people who’ve been to Cuba, a lot of the people are just so beaten down by poverty and lack of opportunity that they’ve become very passive trying to survive. The only hope would be to kill off all the Communist elite and give everyone a kick in the ass, but that’s not feasible or within the US governments purview. Communism makes a big mess of countries

And there are no doubt people living on that land now. Are they just expected to pack up and move because of something that happened before they were born? That land is gone, folks, accept it and move on.
And that stupid embargo hasn't helped. It didn't hurt Castro and his mooks, rather it hurt the average Cubans who were struggling to survive.
What Biden should do in regards to Cuba is finish what Obama started. Re-establish relations and such, open Cuba up to American tourists and their money. Once Cubans see that capitalism, if done right, can be a good thing, that might help bring about the reforms that the embargo has failed to cause.

I have to agree here. The relationship between the USA and Cuba was once good until the Communism came by Castro and the American Mafia had to leave the island. Obama started a good thing, yet as I see it and again agree with Vanessa, the old Communism elite has to be gone for that to happen. Maybe Cuba has a chance to open up again and see what capitalism is capable of.

The reason Cuba went Communist is because the corrupt Batista government allowed the Mafia to come in and turn Cuba into their private playground. The rich controlled everything and the poor, well, no one gave a damn about them. So when Castro turned up and starting talking about everyone being equal, people listened.
However, Biden can show Cuba that capitalism isn't all bad, and things won't go back to the way they were before Castro. Heck, a lot of Cubans would love for the Americans to come back and bring their money with them.
However, for those Cubans exiles and their heirs, they should not expect to get their land back and such. Perhaps they can seek some financial compensation, but that's about as much as they can hope for.

Looks that way. We'll see what Biden does regarding to Cuba.

He can start by getting rid of that embargo, which has been a hopeless failure and punished the wrong people.
With American money coming in, the Cuban economy would improve and could help ease them into a democratic government.

Yep, that embargo was long enough in place. They really should start anew!

Said embargo is another relic of the Cold War. A relic who's time is long past.

Thing is, many of the older Cuban exiles in the U.S. want the embargo to continue in order to punish Cuba. They really think starving out the Communists will work, but it ends up hurting the ordinary people. The embargo still made sense when the Soviet Union was still around but not anymore, especially since the Soviets sent over a lot of personnel and traded with them. The best solution would be for Americans to invest in tourism but make sure that the Communist regime stays out, since the government will just take the money for itself and only hire workers loyal to the regime. Many hotels in Cuba are run by the government and treat workers badly, plus they will only hire loyal Communists instead of people who really need the work.

Of course, this generation is on its way out. Anyone who was 20 when Castro took over is now 81. Most Cubans in the U.S. are now either second or third generation. Can't see them getting worked up over a land they've never seen or been to.
It hasn't worked for sixty years. I don't see it starting to now.
And that's the problem, the embargo hurt the wrong people. People who had nothing to do with the revolution.

If someone offered me a trip to Cuba to see where my parents grew up, I wouldn’t go. Someone else already lives there and I’d be depressed at how poor and miserable the country looks, when I see travel videos of Cuba on YouTube I get the sense I’m watching a Potemkin village since the authorities wouldn’t want outsider to know how poor everyone really is. I’d never go to a resort in a Third World country for that reason, you’re only seeing the nice areas and everyone is much poorer than you, I’d feel guilty for having fun while people are so poor 😞

Yeah, I can see that.
However, if the embargo is lifted, then more money will come in, and trickle down to the poor as well.
