I have to say that I really loved the scene with Mary and Alice at the clinic. Alice sees her as another sister and doesn’t want to kill her so dare I hope this means we’ll be getting more between them since Kate’s gone?
That bat trick was clever. Well done Alice.
Ryan has an antagonist history with Sophie and the Crows. That should keep them at odds for a while.
Loved Ryan and Mary teaming up about her wearing the suit. Two against one, sorry Luke.
Still doing the thing where the character reading does their own voiceover. Nice detail of Ryan writing to Kate now.

Racism and discrimination was clearly a theme in this episode with Ryan not getting the job because of her criminal past and being questioned by Sophie.
Her issues with the Crows concerning her wrongful imprisonment will play out I'm certain.
Jacob's guilt about what happened to Kate continued with the viewing footage of when he shot her as Batwoman in the football park as well as whatever happened to her also with Jacob and Sophie questioning Luke and Mary separately.
Kate's disappearance is obviously still affecting Sophie and you could feel tension between her and Julia then.
Alice doing the bat trick thing was clever portraying herself going madder into descent.
Nice parellel with Ryan being scared of bats whereas Kate wasn't actually.
Of course the writers had her dress up as Batwoman which made sense I guess in the current circumstances with Julia injured obviously.
I understand why Mary sided with Ryan because of what happened with her mother.
Ryan's speech at the end about why she could be Batwoman was good because of the fact she's not rich like Kate and has dealt with criminals previously on a personal level that makes her more relatable and perhaps a slightly better hero than Kate was possibly which we'll find out if true throughout the coming year.

In this era of Black Lives Matter, one can understand Ryan's feelings of being singled out because of the colour of her skin. She initially believed that the Crows let Alice go because she was white, and not the daughter of Jacob Kane.
I think Mary called it when she said that Alice was grieving for Kate. I mean it sure struck a nerve with Alice, didn't it.
Alice seems to have gained the ability to teleport. At least it seems that way, given the way she suddenly appears (like in Julia's car).
Poor Jacob really thought it was Kate, for a moment at least. Of course, he doesn't want to give up on Kate, like he gave up on Beth (had he kept looking he might have prevented her from becoming Alice).
Hope more tuned in for this one.

Thoroughly enjoyed the episode, in fact I thought it was stronger writing wise than the previous one, the more I learn about Ryan the more I like her.
Having said that, I can't help but wonder why the writers didn't just make Sophie the new Batwoman, she knows the other characters, trained like Kate did and has seen action, would have made sense imo.
But I do like Ryan a lot, love her writing letters to Kate now, feels like Kate is going to be back at some point, whether its Ruby Rose playing her or not.

Me too.
As I said, Ruby could shoot her scenes in Australia, and they could just cut her in when needed. Of course, this would be a cameo, but I'd take it if they gave the character closure.

I'd rather they not recast her, if they wanted to recast her, they should have done that and still kept her as the lead. It feels like they decided to go the direction they went, in the hopes she'd agree to come back. At least she left on good terms, that old footage and photos are allowed to be used. I couldn't help but think of Shannen on Charmed here, going to myself, I wished things ended better for Prue, that we'd have gotten that. Hopefully she'll agree to a cameo.

Found this interview in relation to this episode. Great interview, loved it.
This feels like a great companion to the first episode. I really enjoyed how everything panned out here.
My sister however has watched the show here and there, and didn't mind this episode, but admits she wasn't so high on Batwoman in season 1 to begin with, and pops in and out, with this show. But hopes people like Ryan, she's more excited for Supergirl (her favourite DC show have been Supergirl and Legends, all the other DC, she isn't that high on) Her favourite DC female superhero is Supergirl, she never really was into Batwoman, and prefers Batgirl, but that's just her opinion.
Ryan continues to be a delight. Her assuming that Alice was safe because of her whiteness and then the wheels turning towards the correct answer immediately is the type of detective work I expect from a member of the Bat Family.
Luke being so distrusting of Ryan is an interesting turn, but a believable one. He and Kate had such a fire forged relationship last season it makes sense that he would be the last holdout against Ryan, esp since Ryan and Mary already have a bonding point in watching their mothers die. His "Hello?! BLACK!" was my favorite line of the episode lmao.
Speaking of Mary, She owned every scene she was in and I can't wait for her and Ryan to become true friends.
Of course Alice isn't far behind Mary though. Unhinged Alice is a delight, and I loved seeing her and Ryan face off for a minute. I'm also curious to see how Safiyah plays off her.
I really like Julia, and hope she gets promoted to regular.
Sophie, without Kate, feels like she really is just here. I wonder if they'll do more with her and Julia. Because I'll admit, she's the least interesting, and hope without Kate she has more to do, and her connection to Ryan might do that. They better not put her and Ryan together.
