This was my favorite episode yet, the character dynamics really continue to be the highlight of the show.
You can tell here that Stella is warming to having her dad around again, but hasn't totally gotten over her resentment of him leaving yet, and that Walker is still feeling awkward around his kids and is walking on eggshells around Stella, but he realized by the end that he still needs to be a parent, and that means having to teach his kids about consequences, even if that means possibly upsetting them.
I am also glad that everyone seems to be giving Walker more of a break, I know that he didn't handle things well when he lost his wife, but he did lose his wife after all and was obviously devastated, and he really is trying to reconnect with his family. (Fans need to be kind to him, I don't get the hate on social media from the pilot on him when I took a look)
So we meet Hoyt, the Old Friend who is now trouble. I really liked how they played things and the actor playing Hoyt was quite good. You could see how charming he could be, enough that you can see why people still hang around him despite him being clearly bad news
I am curious about what his story is with the family, Abline seemed to imply that Hoyt had saved one of her sons before, even beyond her taking him in as a surrogate son/nephew, and that means she just keeps giving him chances no matter how many times he lets her down.
Even then, I do actually buy that he does care about Walker and his family, and he did seem regretful in his last conversation that he let Abline down again, and when Walker and Micki caught him, he seemed almost proud.
I continue to really like the growing partnership between Micki and Walker, and we even got a nice scene between Micki and Bonham bonding over quality stake and finding Hoyt annoying. They are really balancing each other out as partners. I hope that we can see Micki having some more scenes with the rest of his family.
So Bonham and Abline are having some problems it seems. This might have happened when Walker was away for nearly a year. We shall see.
August is really moving up my favorite character list, his drunk dancing was so silly but funny, as was his narration of their return to school. He is also quite insightful, and such a joy to watch. I love that I can actually enjoy a teenager in a show for a change.
Odds and Ends:
*The flashback with Walker and Emily is seventeen years ago, so this is before Stella was born, but when Emily got pregnant. So they were in their early 20s? Of course the actors are too old to play that, but to put it lightly, this would be as if Sam Winchester got married and started a family when he was at Stanford. LOL (but, I'm guessing Jared who is 38 is playing older and Walker is about 40). So He had his first child Stella when he was 23/24?
Grade: A
Favorite Three Moments: 1. Walker and Stella in the car with August running behind them.
2. Walker yelling "Wake up" to August.
3. Geri and Mick bonding near the end of the episode.
Excellent review, Silas. I love your three favourite moments. I fully agree with the first two. August really is becoming such a great character. And Jared is really killing it as playing a dad. Yeah, it seems they are ending each episode with Walker and his children, and some bonding.

Yeah, August is just such a cool kid and so funny and charming even if he appears to be a bit of a loner and to himself. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Yeah, Jared is so great as a dad here. I love the bonding his is having with his chldren.

Walker clearly wants to be there for them. He left them once, he will not do so again.

Yes, he will no doubt not do that again. He loves his kids too much to do that to them again.

Thanks, SpnFanJackie and Dark Avenger . Glad you liked my review. I'll be doing these in this format, like my Charmed ones. I really love grading them and what my top three moments are. Yes, he will no doubt not do that again. He loves his kids too much to do that to them again. I agree, he is making so much progress. Stella and him are at a good place right now. He is, but I have a feeling August might be bottling up his feelings, as has been teased. Loved the scene at the end with them driving the car. Me too, which made my top three moments of this episode.

I get the feeling we haven't seen the last of him.
Me either. This was my favorite episode yet, the character dynamics really continue to be the highlight of the show.

WOW! Really brilliant review, I love the format you do. I loved your three moments. Yeah, I think Walker and Emily were high school sweethearts and got married in their early 20s. Jared might be 38, but I'd put Walker as at least 39 or 40. Fits he had his kids in his mid 20s.

Silas adopted the same format they do to review episodes Team Charmed Cafe use in their rewatches of course.
Anyway good episode.
I liked Emily teaching Walker to drive at the start with the smiling ornament guy he kept for seventeen years.
He and Micki bonding more I enjoyed throughout.
Hoyt's first appearance at the strip club was hmm, hmm.
Bonham didn't like his son's friend although Abline did which I can understand why.
Hoyt had Emily's car which coincidentally Walker named Stella that was nice seeing harking to what their future daughter would be named.
So Geri and Hoyt used to date which ended on a sour note.
Walker didn't think his friend was up to no good although Micki did whom he regretted not believing afterwards.
August as a characters growing on me. His drunk dance at the bonfire was funny and I liked the scene when him, Liam, his fiancé, and Stella in the car singing.
Cordell shouting at him to wake up was funny also watching.
Stella and Walker are getting along better at least.
Bonham and Abline are having problems which'll be explored more down the line.
Geri and Micki bonded at the end.
And the scene with Walker teaching Stella to drive Emily's car with August running beside them added a nice follow on touch to the start of the episode.

Stella was named after that car.
