Looks like I called it. This episode was clearly meant to be the S2 finale. The fallout from the faction was resolved and the Jimmy thing was wrapped up.
We had the sisters race to recover the Source medallion, as that was part of the thing that could stop this plague that was killing magic. However, they had mined wiped where they had put the pieces and needed someone to help recover their memories.
Enter Abby, who was willing to help. After all, the plague was killing her too.
Then the sisters headed off to recover the pieces.
For Maggie, it was Hilltown, and she and Jordan went there. Of course, Maggie is thought to be dead there, so she tried to be careful. However, she was spotted and recognized. However, the girl that saw Maggie was drunk, so that might help.
For Macy, it was the south Atlantic. Once again he scientific background was used as she determined just where the sand had come from. She and Harry then headed off to get their piece.
Mel too went to Hilltown, but to the year 2070, accompanied by Abby. While there, she saw her own tombstone. However, that was a future, not the future.
Once back at the control room, the sisters put the medallion together. Mel is prepared to sacrifice herself, but Maggie and Macy join her. It was all of them, or none of them. And that was the key, their willingness to sacrifice all their lives as sisters. With that, magic was saved (as we knew it would).
Shame about Jimmy, but he was a loose end that the writers needed to tie up.
And what was up with that force field at the end.
The sister of Abby's is not a Cain, as she on the mother's side of the family. And both have made it clear that they want nothing to do with Abby. Ouch!
What was going on with Abby as the show ended.

Starting with the positives: the separate journeys to recover the pieces of the medallion that contains the Source was interesting and I liked all three pairings. Felt like a little longer could have been spent here particularly exploring the future with Mel and getting to the island offshore should have happened onscreen. This also felt like the perfect time for a Maggie and Jordan kiss or at least them admitting their feelings for one another. Finally, them coming together and each willing to sacrifice their self being the key was a nice touch. Personally, would have preferred it destroyed the command centre in the process as I feel it makes everything a tad too easy and being forced to go back to basics would've been interesting to explore.
The negatives: Jimmy. Why bring him back? Seemed like an unnecessary return that didn't have the impact I think they were hoping. Feels like a complete retcon of his story arc. He willing had his memory wiped and it felt as though he was ready to move on. It also could've been something that they could've revisited in the future.
The other big negative is setting up Abby as the next big bad. It just feels so underwhelming. Her relationship with the sisters has been growing and she's slowly backed away from evil so I'm really disappointed that it appears she'll be throwing all that away. Exploring her "goodness", that side of the family included, is far more interesting than the predictability of her eventual vanquish.

That was a good touch. They either triumph together or die together. We need more sister moments like this.
Wonder if the COVID shutdown had something to do with this. I get the feeling that they were forced to change a few of their original plans.

Possibly. But as I said, they could've spent a lot time on their individuals journeys. For example, what if Abby and Mel's spell went awry and they arrived in the right time but not the right place. Maybe Macy set a trap between the beach and the island to protect the piece of the amulet? Any number of possibilities instead of dragging Jimmy back.

Yeah, I know. Seems they saw Jimmy as a loose end that needed to be tied up. Mind you, that wasn't necessary.
