Yes, if you watch it, let us know what you think of it. Those of us who don't watch, I'm sure will enjoy following along with your reviews, and watching it that way.

I might check this out. Still wish it took over Legacies not Riverdale's slot. Lol
And we barely see a show with an all Asian cast on television. Hoping this leads to more. It's one thing to be diverse. But there are so many cultures to pull from. Asians are so badly underrepresented.

It's a good idea, but it's the wrong time. Asians are not too popular right now, and I can see people boycotting this show because of that.
The CW needs to read the room.

Yeah true, but not their fault, this was already ordered to series well ahead current events over a year ago.
But will be interesting to see how it performs. But no way it is beating Walker or Superman and Lois. Might rate as low as Charmed's reboot.

I'll check it out this weekend the pilot.
Looks like it did alright for its debut. We'll see how it goes from here.

So we have our first series with a full Asian cast on American primetime (or that I can remember, probably has been one, but compared to African Americans, Asians are way more underused for POC), with just one token white guy (whose actor was born in Hong Kong I believe).
I went in hoping it wouldn't go for the common tropes or stereotypes. Luckily the creator is Asian, so that helps.
What the show did so well in the pilot episode was carefully establish the dynamics that exist within this Chinese family in a way that feels relatable, and I hope to a wider Asian American audience.
This iteration of Kung Fu has a supernatural element that was not present in the original I believe. The opening two fight sequences and the special effects definitely help to set the tone for the rest of the series.
So Nicky ditched her family for at least three years over a speed dating evening during the homeland tour, and ended up joining an all-female Shaolin monastery in China. Now, I know martial arts was practiced traditionally mostly by men, but I'm sure times have changed now.
I really liked the family dynamic, as well as Henry.
I think the sister Althea might be my favorite character so far. I like that she isn't just spoiled like she might come off to some on the surface, but is intelligent, has some badass computer skills, and was the first to reach out and support Nicky when she came back.
Having the main story being around finding the eight swords to make sure they aren't brought together could be cool.
I actually enjoyed it. It helps that I never saw the original Kung Fu either, so I have nothing to compare it to. The only thing that bothered me was the very "CW" overly used musical score. I know they thought the lyrics fitted the show in scenes, I just found them annoying. But this is a trend for most CW shows, and hopefully they tone that down.
Overall has lots of potential this show. Definitely down with the majority of the cast being Asian, which is refreshing, Asian are so underused on television. I will be back next week.
Grade: B+

Grade: B+ Sounds like it was a good watch, and glad you liked it enough to come back. Looks like the family dynamic was great and the characters were written well. Yeah, maybe they'll tone down all the music later, if they get enough feedback.

Seems I was wrong about the anti-Asian backlash affecting this show. And glad of it.

Seems I was wrong about the anti-Asian backlash affecting this show. And glad of it. Very happy to hear it's doing well. I wonder if they'll pair this show with Batwoman next season. It would be a good fit with Batwoman due to the female leads and characters kicking butt. Be a first to see two shows starring POC leads taking over a night of television.

Depends if Kung Fu gets a second season, I don't see any reason why it won't, or they'll get backlash for cancelling an all Asian cast series. It's already doing well so far. We'll see.

Can't wait for S3.
I'm so excited hearing this news below. As an SPN fan, so exctied she'll be joining in S3.
I look forward to seeing what friendship she'll have with Mei-Li. Sounds like Mei-Li will have a friend in S3. Kim's fantastic.
I didn't even realize that Robert Berens a writer on this show worked on SPN on Jody episodes. Maybe he was the one who got her on this show.
