Lucky you. I need to phone again if I find the time for it. We have a new government now. Maybe it'll get better.

Anyone hear those stories coming out of South Africa, that Omicron is not as severe as the others have been. If this is true, then what is all the panic about?
Of course, for the corrupt politicians, it's about control. They are taking advantage of the situation the way Adolf Hitler took advantage of the situation to take control of Germany in 1933. Germany was in total chaos at the time. Hitler saw an opportunity, and he grabbed it.
Don't get me wrong, I do plan to get my booster when my turn comes. However, over the past couple of years, I've come more and more to distrust many politicians. Wish we had a vaccine to make them go away.

I think the fear is that we don't know enough about it yet because its so new, we have some preliminary test results but it hasn't been long eough to really ascertain how threatening it is, not only that but its supposed to be even more easy to spread it, and all our vaccines were designed around the original COVID variants, not omicron, so there is the added fear of not knowing how protected those who are vaccinated will be.

Yeah, the unknown is the scary part. Apparently, the Omicron virus spreads faster than any other variant to date. I've heard of a case where someone fully vaccinated and boosted caught it. I'll keep my eyes open to see how it goes with more data in the next month.
It's too early to really know much.
I'm just glad I'm getting My Booster tomorrow.

It's true there isn't enough data on the new variant to tell how serious that is. Some people are saying it's more transmissible than the Delta variant but not as deadly though.
We have had one person at the moment die of this new variant in Britain who apparently may've been fully vaccinated I don't know but many folks are saying the number of cases in hospital reported doesn't add up with the data currently being shown obviously.
Further restrictions haven't been ruled out yet whereas Wales will shut pubs and Nightclubs after Christmas for a bit and Ireland are closing their hospitality doors around 8 pm again then.
Scotland you need a vaccine passport to visit Nightclubs etc.
Where people won't follow any tightening of new restrictions stems down to the fact Number 10 had a party last year when London wasn't allowed to at the time plus a work-related meeting last May in the garden between 14-17 politicians during the rule of 6 so why should anything the government say be believed anymore when there seems to be one rule for some and not for others of course.

It's more than just that. I think people are just plain fed up. Once again they see governments infringing on their rights and freedoms (and destroying their businesses as well) and some may decide to push back. Oh it will start small, a protest here or there, but I can see it growing if things don't ease up. Protests getting larger and larger. What then? Declare Martial Law and order troops to fire on said protestors? And would the troops obey such orders, to fire on their own people. Would Britain be willing to do that? Would Canada? The U.S.? Any other (Australia, New Zealand, etc)?
We're not talking China or North Korea here, but democratic countries.
And being a dictatorship didn't stop the Romanian military from turning on Nicolae Ceaușescu when he ordered troops to fire on protesters in 1989. And Ceausescu and his wife had ruled that country with an iron hand for decades, but look was happened (both were executed on Christmas Day of 1989).
I can see this happening now, if troops in a democratic country were ordered to do such a thing. Granted I don't see the leaders of the countries in question suffering the fate of the Ceausescu's. Rather they would just be deposed and either imprisoned or exiled.
People can only be pushed so far before they rise up. It's happened again and again. France in 1789, Europe in 1848, Russia in 1917, and Eastern Europe in 1989 (although most of those peacefully ousted the Communist rulers, except for the aforementioned Romania).
Granted I don't think we at that boiling point yet, but I can see it coming. And then what? Revolution? Civil War? Anarchy? Whatever, it won't be pretty. Maybe it won't be so bad in Europe, but in the U.S., where everyone and their siblings own a gun and many already distrust, if not hate, the government? Yikes. We all saw what happened in Washington last January. Imagine that times ten. Because it won't be a bunch of right wing rednecks this time, but rather people who feel that they've been pushed as far as their are willing to be pushed and are now pushing back.
And how many will be killed if the scenarios I outlined happen? Millions? Billions? You tell me.
IMO, the only way to prevent this is for the governments to stand down and accept that Covid, like AIDS, Ebola, West Nile and such could be around for a long time. Heck we haven't been able to lick the Common Cold! Keep the vaccinations coming, keep the mask mandates (if necessary), but, otherwise, leave us the hell alone.

Yeah I'm starting to lean that way myself, it will come to a point where we just need to accept that COVID is here to stay in its various forms, and all we can do is wear masks, get vaccinated and just live our lives as best we can being as careful as we can. This virus in whatever strain it may currently be in, will probably never die out - at least not for many years. I undertand easing the strain on hospitals but if everyone gets vaccinated and tested properly upon entry to a country that should largely mitigate that issue.
I think coming next will be mandatory vaccination, I've already heard rumblings of it, lets see if governments take that step. I'm not sure how to feel about it.

That's exactly it. We can handle this without the governments getting in our faces and trampling all over our civil rights.

I personally feel we just have to live with it. Mandatory vaccines and passports won't work. You'll just keep dividing the vaccinated from unvaxed. The unvaxed if they don't want to have it, that's their choice. If they die, that's on them.

Here where I am, we did have mandatory vaccination and passports since November. But it's been eased a lot. Because it just caused so many problems and divided everyone (much like the incident with the poor staffer being pushed down the stairs). The unvaxxed had been protesting non-stop for two months over it.
Now, masks have to be worn ALWAYS indoors other than eating in restaurants, QR codes used to check-in. And negative tests are used if the unvaxxed want to get into some places or if you are traveling overseas or interstate. Treat those tests like having to show your passport to go overseas before boarding a plane.
I'm so glad they got rid of those rules. It didn't work. I'm sure if other parts of the world did it, will just lead the what happened here. People will protest everywhere nonstop, and cause drama, divide everyone and people will get hurt over it.
Just have to get by. No way can we keep locking down over and over. We just have to live with this. Getting vaccinated is the best thing to do, wash hands and wear a mask in a crowd. To those who don't want to, that's their choice. Good luck to them.

I agree with others here. We just need to live with this thing and get top-up vaccinated, wear masks, regularly sanitize our hands, and keep our distance if need be.
Governments must realize we have to live with whatever's happening currently and not keep locking countries or cities down to save doctors and nurses because you will have mass protests and civil unrest otherwise like with mandatory vaccinations and COVID passports that have been happening.
People have lived so long without their liberties gone that they're not used to having them taken away so politicians must be mindful of that when thinking about things.

Obviously, we have to live with it now. What else can we do? Enjoy the life we've got now, though we are used it by now as well. *sighs*
