Racism was the theme here. Nancy is arrested, and taken to the police station. While she's there, Ned and Ryan Hudson arrive. Then the station is taken over, electronically, by a mysterious voice called The Arbiter. The Arbiter demands that Nancy solve the case of the disappearance of a black woman, years before. It becomes clear that the case was underexposed because she was indeed, black.
This hits home for Ned, being black himself, and a victim of racism, and he helps Nancy with the case she has been handed.
In the case, Nancy does solve the case. The woman died as a result of police brutality, and the crime was covered up. The guilty cop is forced to confess, and the Arbiter released them.
Nancy has figured out who the Arbiter is, the town Reverend. Without telling anyone, Nancy goes to see her, and gets the whole story, the Reverend just wanted justice done. And it was done.
This has an impact on Nancy. As the episode ends, we see her crying, as she realizes that she has lost her way. She is determined to make things right by finding a way to bring Everett Hudson to justice.
Meanwhile, Bess, George, and Ace summon the spirit of George's great aunt, to help with the Odette situation. The spirit possessed Ace, and agree to help. However, in the end, bad news. Odette's former lover, Mary, moved on and loved again. She died happy. Odette does not take this well. George and her aunt have a chat, before the aunt leaves. The aunt warns George that Odette could cut her life short. Yikes!
Loved the bit where Carson realizes what Nancy told him. She seemed to harshly tell him off, but it was really a code, which Carson understood.
Good episode.
