BOOK: Plague Room AUTHOR: Steven Piziks Year of publication: 2008
Melinda finds herself pitted against Wendy King, a self proclaimed medium. While Wendy cannot see and talk to ghosts like Melinda can, she is bale to cross them over. Problem is, Wendy forces the ghost to cross over before they are ready, which prevents the ghost from fulfilling the task they remained earthbound to do.
Furthermore, Wendy actually charges people for her services. This is something that Melinda has never done, as she helps ghosts because it is in her nature, and the goodness of her heart. She is not in it for the money.
Needless to say, this puts Melinda and Wendy in conflict with each other. As the conflict escalates, Melinda begins to notice that Wendy has a ghost attached to her, a ghost that may be encouraging Wendy on.
To complicate matters further, there is a new Bed and Breakfast about to open, in a house with dark secrets that are about to be revealed.
This book is set during the first season, as Andrea is there. As most of you know, Andrea was Melinda's best friend and business partner, who know her secret. Andrea was one of two people (Melinda's husband, Jim, being the other) that Melinda could trust with it.
This book also has a scene right out of the show. While driving, Melinda is stopped by a female cop, who asks for Melinda's license. While this is happening, Melinda notices that the cop is wearing a uniform that is twenty years out of date, and has no computer in her car. Melinda realizes that the cop is a ghost, and vows to one day come back and help the cop cross over.
So, if you are a GW fan, you'll like this one.
10/10.

BOOK: Ghost Trap AUTHOR: Doranna Durgin Year of publication: 2009
Melinda is baffled when all the children in Grandview start slipping into a coma. There is no medical reason for this to happen, however, there is a supernatural one. A ghost is causing it.
However, Melinda is having a hard time pinning this ghost down. Usually it's easy for her, but this time the ghost is elusive. The only clue is a mysterious lullaby that Melinda keeps hearing, the same lullaby that lures the children into a coma.
The premise of this novel is based on the idea that children can see and hears ghosts, but grow out of it as they get older. As only children are the ones affected here.
This events of this novel take place after the start of the second season, as Delia is there.
Once again the characters are spot on.
10/10.

BOOK: Revenge AUTHOR: Doranna Durgin Year of publication: 2008
In this novel, Melinda finds herself dealing with the vengeful ghost of a murdered man. That is challenge enough. However, the ghost is haunting the person the thinks murdered him. Yet it seems that the ghost is targeting the wrong person.
And it doesn't help matters that the man the ghost is after is not being too helpful. He does seem to he harbouring a secret, but what is the secret in question. If he is not the murderer, than who is? And can Melinda unravel the truth before it's too late?
This reminded me of a few episodes of the show, which dealt with a ghost of a supposed murder victim. Often Melinda would not only have to help the ghost cross over, but try to find out who killed him/her as well. Not always an easy task. The same problem applies here, Melinda trying to help a murder victim's ghost not only find peace, but justice as well. Not always an easy task (as the legal system does not recognize the existence of ghosts).
One again the characters were spot on. Doranna Durgin has done her homework for the two GW books she wrote.
This novel takes place in or after S2, as Delia is there.
10/10.
And that's it for the GW books, They only published three of them. I'm guessing that, had the series continued, they would have published more. But, alas...

That's the problem like with the season 4 Charmed episode when Phoebe was on jury duty and saw the real person who'd killed Angela and couldn't tell anyone she'd seen a vision of that because no one would've believed her hence why she had to do what she did to change the other juror's minds so the guy on trial wasn't convicted of course.
Wendy from the first book is slightly like my original Charmed fanfiction character Melissa who owns a paranormal agency herself and charges people for supernatural help but not for-profit or gain or forcing ghosts to crossover before their time but because she generally wants to help people. The money keeps the agency running pays other staff's wages, helps buy food, clothes and pays the bills whilst supporting Mel's family also then.

Except for Wendy, it was all about the money. And most of her "clients" were not too thrilled about that.
Most of the time, Wendy found herself forcibly removed from the house of said client, after demanding payment (much to Melinda's amusement).

I can understand why certainly. With Melissa if client's can't pay to have their problems sorted that's okay of course. Her agency does pro-bono work also plus with enough evil running around San Francisco and across America there's always work and payment for that balancing the none paid stuff as well.

Melissa is a much better person than Wendy King is.
But Wendy does get a comeuppance. That's all I'll say, in case you want to read the book.

Shame that the books ended. Just because the show is finished doesn't mean the books have to finish too.
Classic Star Trek ended more than fifty years ago, yet books are still coming out.
