I agree with all of this Tim.
Sometimes there are shows out there that do well originally even if they have faults of their own like OG Charmed in the later seasons and some fans don't want them rebooted then. Xena's another example of this as well.
Differently, there are shows like Cobra Kai a sequel to the Karate Kid movies which perform well due to nostalgia from 80's fans plus well-thought-out storylines, and ongoing character development because producers who are still there after one season do actual research, not off the cuff stuff.
Had the reboot adopted this maybe it might not have been canceled.

The reboot failed from the start. I think it had a hard time given they tried to put this out only a decade after Classic Charmed ended. The Kung Fu reboot has done very well, from what I heard. And hasn't gotten as much hate as the Charmed reboot. It helps it's a reboot of a show that first came out decades ago in the 70s.
Maybe the time wasn't right for the reboot. They should have waited another 10-20 years, when the original series was off the air for a few decades. That said, the show should have had a more simple S1 storyline.
I don't think any of the original writers from the reboot from S1 had much love and thought put into the reboot than just another cash grab. They didn't flesh out their characters, or put much care into plotlines.

That's the problem about reboots. They tend to put it out a bit too soon than meant to be, like they put a gossip girl reboot out, and then now a pretty little liars one is coming soon too. jeez. writers. think of better ideas. instead of rehashing the same story with different characters and such.

Completely agree. I'm shocked they are doing one for Pretty Little Liars, and that show literally only went off the air four years ago. It's insane.
They are always attempting to reboot Daredevil and that show only ended because Netflix canceled that universe along with Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. It's like, why did they even bother canceling Daredevil in the first place if they are going to reboot it again.
I don't mind reboots if enough time has passed. Rebooting something 30 years is okay with me. Enough time has passed from the original series.
But still, give us original stories. Now, if they feel inspired by something that was done before, and want to do their own thing, while taking the inspiration from it. Sure.

Yeah, they should have waited another 20 years.
I mean they waited almost 30 years before they rebooted Magnum P.I. (and that reboot also got cancelled).

Yes, the reboot started in 2018, exactly twenty years after the original show did.

That's what you call bad timing.

Yeah, I guess.

Yeah, it was bad timing. As it kinda prevented the classic series from having a proper 20-year anniversary. Hard to do, when there's a reboot to promote. Didn't want that to get the attention. Oh well!

One of the things that the reboot did right was in how the Vera sisters treated Harry. He was family to them and they always worried when he was gone.
Compare that to Leo, who seemed more like the Halliwell sister's slave at times.

I'll agree on that yes and there were probably a couple of other things the reboot did okay on as well. Unfortunately, the overall reception though was different of course.
