Supergirl and Glee star Melissa Benoist has landed her next major TV role after the the CW superhero show came to an end last year.
Deadline reported that Benoist is in talks to headline The Girls on the Bus, as well as executive producing the HBO Max show.
The Girls on the Bus is an adaptation of the bestselling book Chasing Hillary: Ten Years, Two Presidential Campaigns and One Intact Glass Ceiling by Amy Chozick, and was particularly inspired by one chapter in the book.
The drama series will see four female journalists who are reporting from the campaign trail (known as 'the bus') and following the stories of flawed presidential candidates while dealing with friendship, love, careers, and scandal at the same time.
Benoist will be playing one of the journalists in question, but no other actors have been tapped to join her yet.
Negotiations with Benoist for Girls on the Bus have been ongoing, as the show moved from The CW (where it had been in development for its 2022 season) to HBO Max for the series order. The show was originally set up to be developed at Netflix before moving to The CW.
