As most of you know, the S2 finale of Superman & Lois revealed that the show does not take place on the same Earth as the Arrowverse shows do, or did. This answered a lot of questions, like why didn't Supergirl, the Flash, and others help out, during the whole Bizarro thing. Or why does General Lane not look the same as he did before. Or why Clark's Fortress looked nothing like Kara's. And many other questions.
Frankly, I think they made the right call. You could easily get into S&L, without having seen any Arrowverse show, and have no problem following what's going on. It a good thing for newbies, to come into this show, without worrying about all the backstory.
And it made it easier for the writers of S&L. Now they could create new tales, without being bogged down by all the backstory.
Finally, since the Arrowverse is now pretty much dead, S&L can carry on and not have to worry about any loose ends.

I don't think they were given much choice. The CW was canceling Arrowverse shows left and right, the only way for the production crew to save their show was to write in an "out" of the Arrowverse so they could continue without fear of being axed. That's my theory anyway.

Could be.
I mean what's the point of linking your show to a franchise that no longer exists.

Yeah they had no choice. Was no point linking them.
At least this way. They still have the choice to bring actors back from other shows as different versions of the characters like with Lucy and Diggle.
Linking still with the Arrowverse was pointless.

If the Arrowverse was still going strong, then fine, link them. However, the Arrowverse now consists of one show (The Flash), so linking them now would not be logical.

I agree that S&L probably had no choice but to unlink itself from the Arrowverse to save the show been axed overall and now with the fact, that, that universe is all but dead and gone with the Flash its last show the right decision was made for everyone involved.
Considering multiple universes were shown during Crisis on Infinite Earth if a similar story happened like when the opposite occurred some time afterwards in the comics although that probably wouldn't happen here actors from previous Arrowverse shows could show up in Superman and Lois like John Diggle done.

It gets complicated when stories are built on each other and you have to watch each episode, even in different shows. That was not easy.

Yeah, they made the right call, IMO.

So I guess that means that the versions of Superman and Lois we see on the show are in fact NOT the same versions we saw in any previous appearances? Like when they appeared in any crossover events - not the same versions?

Like when they appeared in any crossover events - not the same versions? Nope now they're not if they were meant to be originally. But it's easier for anyone to get in. Nobody needs to watch the crossover or Supergirl appearances to understand their characters. Just start with the pilot. I'm kinda glad. I didn't like the writing for Superman on Supergirls show. Superman really shines more on his own show.

There's interviews somewhere (I can't find it, searched for a while) where they mentioned the versions of S&L from the Arrowverse are still out there somewhere. But S&L show characters are not the same as the ones from the Arrowverse. The Fortress looks so different on Supergirl compared to S&L. Superman's costume is different compared to SG. Histories are so different. As you said. Any Superman fan wanting to check out S&L, Can just ignore watching their appearances on Supergirl and the crossovers. Not worth checking out to understand this show.

Yeah, you can easily watch S&L without having seen any of the Arrowverse shows. That way, there is no backstory to worry about.

I'm assuming Crisis On Infinite Earths changed Clark and Lois once Oliver jump-started the new multiverse so they're now not the same versions people knew before.
This makes sense if the show distances itself from that universe then.
