As per Deadline
The WGA members have voted overwhelmingly (97%) to authorize a strike if a fair deal for a new film and TV contract isn't reached by May 1. The guild's Pattern of Demands includes increased minimum compensation, standardized compensation and residual terms, pension plan and health fund increases, and measures to combat discrimination and harassment. The last strike authorization vote in 2017 was approved by 96.3% of voters.

Personally I'm all for people getting paid what they deserve, if a strike is what it takes to achieve that, then so be it.

This is SOP when contract negotiations come up. A possible strike is put on the table.

www.theguardian.com/media/2023/may/01/hollywood-writers-studios-hold-talks-strike-deadline-loomsUS TV and film production could come to a grinding halt on Tuesday as Hollywood writers threaten to strike across an industry grappling with seismic changes. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) could call a work stoppage as early as Tuesday if it fails to reach a deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) by 11.59pm ET on Monday. A strike would be the first by the WGA in 15 years. Writers say they have suffered financially during the streaming TV boom, in part due to shorter seasons and smaller residual payments. They are seeking pay increases and changes to industry practices that they say force them to work more for less money.

Another thing we can blame the rise of streaming for.
However, like it or loathe it, streaming is here to stay. And if these writers think that they can stop it, then they are no different than those deluded fools who, 200 years ago, though that they could stop the Industrial Revolution by running around, smashing up any machines they could find. They couldn't. The machines were repaired and the IR continued.
Yes, it sucks, but that is the price of progress. Good and bad.

Good news unlike the last one happening in the middle of a season. All shows have wrapped their current seasons writing and filming. Just means a delayed start for the next seasons and or a much shorter order. I'm hoping they'll get what they deserve the writers with fair pay and demands are meet. So expect reality TV to be getting extreme. That will likely fill the fall schedule if the writers strike goes for quite a while.

A silver lining I guess, to such a strike happening now.
That's what happened the last time.

I think our shows like Superman and Lois and Walker are good both have wrapped their seasons. Tim that's right we'll be treated to more reality tv. Don't remind me we'll be stuck with a show like Big Brother during the fall. I hated when It was airing multiple days a week in the winter of 2008 because of the writer's strike. They should just screen reruns. I wonder if they might just broadcast all the streaming shows in primetime for those who don't have streaming.

We're lucky that the strike happened now, when most, if not all, the shows have wrapped their seasons. Nothing will be cut short (which is what happened with COVID).

That's a relief, apart from Riverdale I think they're still filming. Although maybe since knowing this is the last season, they got all their episodes written. As long as scripts are done, they can still film them. But if not, it'll delay the final season. They'll end up like Supernatural's final season being held until they can write the end of the series.
LATER: Good news. I've checked apparently one of the writers shared on IG that they were writing the very last scene of the show two weeks ago and they only have 4 more episodes to shoot so I'm sure they won't be affected by the strike. So nothing will affect them finishing up filming next month.

If the scripts are done, then there is no issue. Strikes like this don't just happen, so there was time to prepare (like getting scripts done ahead of time).
From what I have read, this strike could have happened in 2020, had COVID not come along.
