Inspired by some discussion in the first Xena episode thread I wanted to know which god or goddess (you can choose more than one) were people's favourites from Xena and Hercules and why obviously.
They can be ones which were regularly seen like Ares and Aphrodite or others only featured once or twice for example Baccus then.
Did people have a favourite actor or actress who portrayed a particular god or goddess if one of those was played by different people like Zeus's character and which person would you like to have seen more of or had their backstory expanded on as well overall?
Look forward to reading members' comments of course.

Probably one of my favourite villains in Hercules who was also a goddess was Hera played by American actress Meg Foster although she wasn't the first person to voice the character overall.
Meg was cast perfectly as Hera I think because of the way she portrayed her and how authoritarian she sounded as well.
Meg's eyes used to frighten me slightly as a teenager.
How Hera was introduced by the peacock feather first and then her eyes always interested me.
I often wondered what Hera looked like so when we met her at the end of season 4 I wasn't disappointed.
She appeared near enough how I imagined her in my head.
To me when I think of Hera in film and television it's Meg's portrayal I often associate the character with.
The queen of the gods battles with Hercules were often good follies so when Iolaus and him defeated Hera and her minions I always cheered of course.
Did anyone else like Hera's character? If so what did they think of her themselves?

I know we saw her eyes. The first Hercules movie Amazon women had her in a mirror. The glimpses of her face and eyes used to scare me. I really enjoyed her.

I thought that the same with Ares too before he was shown in the form of Kevin Smith, especially his introduction through the wine bowl and sky in his true form then.

It was a surprise to see his form too which happened on Xena first. Hercules we saw him through like you said. Although one episode he did take possession of someone, and I could see Kevin Smith doing a good job in the part, he sounded like Ares.
And matt, I remember that movie. I liked when Hera took possession of the Amazon Queen. Because we did get Herc/Hera interactions in the sense if one counts the first movie as the start of the Hercules.

Who were people's favourite interpretations of Zeus then i.e. who played him best obviously?

Who were people's favourite interpretations of Zeus then i.e. who played him best obviously? Great question! For reference here they all are: Anthony Quinn portrayed Zeus in the Hercules telemovies. Peter Vere-Jones played him in "Judgment Day,". Roy Dotrice took over the role at the end of Season 4. Charles Keating played Zeus on the final episode of Hercules and in "God Fearing Child." John Bach played him in the Young Hercules episode "Valley of the Shadow." For me I think I like Anthony Quinn then Charles Keating.

There is. So many. It reminds me on the shows a few gods never appeared on screen but had impact on stories from behind the scenes.

Of course, in a show like this, the gods are as much characters as humans are.
