Wonder if AI will one day replace human teachers. That’s actually a horrifying idea, since kids are already on screens a lot and to be on a computer all day at school isn’t good. But since there’s a teacher shortage, I wouldn’t be surprised if in the upper elementary grades and high schools there would be online classes but on school grounds to save money on teacher salaries. For example, remedial and intro classes being AI on a laptop but specialized courses taught by a human teacher. That would suck because remedial students are mostly poor children and children of color, in many places they already get a substandard education and AI classes at school would make it worse. Plus the schools are seen as a free babysitter by a lot of people, the schools have to be open so parents can work. This is why preschool and kindergarten is seen as useless, they’re seen as free babysitting for poor people so the parents can work I hate that thought. Yeah, they are glued to the screens. AI is going to replace everything in 50 years, I'm sadly afraid it will.
I'm so glad I grew up where we had proper libraries and books. I don't even think I touched a computer until high school and that was the old computers in the 90s and it was one class for touch typing.
I won't be surprised its all online class to save money. It's always about cost savings.

I could see this happening, though. Me, too. AI will likely be a massive thing in 50 years. Reminds me of the X-Files episode five years ago, where they had AI. That episode freaked me out about the future.

Yeah, kids these days should be more outside and not in front of any screens. I mean we had that growing up, not having nowadays possibilities and our lives were still full of fun and all. Back to the roots. lol

Back to the roots. lol Agreed! They need to be outside more. We never had screens growing up. In the 90s all I had was a TV, and didn't own a computer or phone as a child at all. Imagine if one day all technology suddenly was taken away forever. The kids wouldn't know how to live.

Count me in, I was a kid in the 90s and all we had was TV and radio, we only had basic cable on TV. But we had a lot of books and our Dad made sure we read, he loved to buy books at yard sales which is why we had three encyclopedias at one point. I’ve seen as a teacher how kids are bored if they finish their work and I tell them to read or start homework, too many kids seem to think reading books is boring and stupid. Even in English classes, the kids seem to think reading for fun is bizarre and that reading is only for schoolwork.
Earlier today the bulletin board functioned as necessary. I got a notification that there was an opening at Fairmount School in Hackensack and I accepted it, I like that school and the district pays well, $140 per day. In my area, Hackensack, Bogota, Lodi and Little Ferry pay best at $140 per day. If I work in these districts for a week, it comes out to $700 before taxes

Today I was an emergency replacement for an aide who worked with a boy who had diabetes, a learning disability and didn’t speak English, only Spanish. He was a sweet boy and I had to take him to the nurse before lunch so he could check his blood sugar.
Unfortunately the teacher was not a nice lady and seemed pissed she had this boy in her class, she was upset when I took him to the nurse before dismissal and had to bring his backpack with homework. She couldn’t find his spelling book and called him a dummy, he was down in the nurse’s office and knew he couldn’t speak English. I was very upset but kept my mouth shut because I was a sub for one day and am not going back there, hopefully one of the other kids rats her out

In terms of safeguarding if any teacher or member of staff behaves inappropriately with any child or children whether that's physically or mentally in Britain, you are meant to report that to the designated safeguarding lead whoever it is at the place you working in.
I assume that's the same in America then?
As I've been told before you could be the missing chink in the chain so to speak.

Thing is this is a class for kids who don’t speak English, only Spanish and the boy was downstairs in the nurse’s office, so that doesn’t count as abuse. Schools are so desperate to retain teachers that they turn a blind eye to stuff like this, plus if I did tell the office I’d get in trouble because she’s a teacher and I was a sub there for one day.
Plus the kids wouldn’t be able to back me up because she said that in English and they only know Spanish. It was an awful situation and I couldn’t say anything, my friend who’s a teaching assistant in NYC said the same thing’s happened to him with the head teacher, he’ll get in trouble for reporting the teacher because he’s just an assistant and the city is desperate to retain teachers

I see what you mean there yes.
The teacher shouldn't have called the child dum though in my opinion.

So, I did my research regarding teaching in Thuringia. Well, I'd need an university degree which I don't have to go on from then. Though I could ask if it would be possible to teach still but well, I have hope to still find another job.

The last week has been uneventful for a while, last week I was a gym teacher and played soccer and pickleball with the kids and subbed doing other random stuff. The best classes to sub are the specials like gym or art that are easygoing and fun or English and History where much of the work is online and the class has books to read, I can pick and choose so I don’t have to work with little kids unless it’s a high paying district
