Perhaps my fears of RTD coming back were misplaced. Jury's still out. However, I did enjoy this story. Now this is an anniversary story, as it included an old Companion (Melanie Bush) and an old villain, the Celestial Toymaker, who hasn't been seen in nearly sixty years. Neil Patrick Harris rocked as the Toymaker. Of course, many in North America know Mr. Harris from two television series. First as Douglas "Doogie" Howser from his late 80's/early 90's show, and, more recently as Barney Stinson on ow I Met Your Mother. One of Barney's tag lines was "Challenge accepted" and I kept waiting for the Toymaker to say that when the Doctor challenged him. UNIT continues it's policy of employing former Companions from Classic Who Of Blessed Memory. Last year it was Tegan and Ace, and this time it was Melanie Bush (Bonnie Langford). Of course, Bonnie ad a cameo in last year's Power Of The Doctor, as one of the former Companions in tat group we saw at the end. It was nice to see her again and we got an explanation, kind of, as to how Mel got back to Earth. Last time we saw her, she had decided to travel with Sabalom Glitz in the far future. Both Adric and Sarah Jane got mentioned as deceased Companions. Come on, no one will ever replace Elisabeth Sladen, at least not on the show (Big Finish is another story). Wilf is reduced to a non-speaking cameo (since his actor was now dead). And Ncuti Gatwa made is debut in a "WTF" moment (even the Toymaker was thrown by this "bi-regeneration thing).
So long Tennant Doctor and Donna, it's been fun catching up. Now it' Ncuti's turn at bat. It's about ten years too soon for television. In 1925, radio was barely around. A South Korean satellite allows access for the whole world. I doubt North Korea would allow it's folks access (as most folks in that unfortunate country don't even have a computer, let alone Internet access). Why the swing at Moffat era Companions, while the Cibnall ones get a pass?
Okay, UNIT is supposed to be a secret organization. So they build a mile high tower HQ and stick it in the middle of one of the largest and busiest cities in the world!? Duhhhhhhh... That's it until Christmas.

I didn't see the entire episode as only caught it from when the Doctor and Donna were in Toymaker's shop so missed Wilf's cameo and what happened before but was aware from YouTube previews of Toymaker's introduction of what happened surrounding that.
It reminded me of the Charmed scene where Leo and Piper were in her Jeep and witnessed the chaos the Horseman War was causing outside before Piper froze the area.
Neil Patrick Harris was good as the Toymaker. I got Joker and Trickster vibes off him for some reason, especially with the Spice Girls scene.
It was good seeing Mel again despite having not seen her original tenure with 6 and 7th Doctor of course.
The mention of old companions was nice hearing as you never forget lifelong friends.
About the concept of bi-generation. It was interesting seeing two Doctors.
Some people think that could explain past episodes where doctors have met other incantations although that could also be explained that those times were either being in a different time or they were sent on purpose by external people like time lords for instance.
I guess ultimately it was to appease die-hard Tennant fans who didn't want him going while continuing the woke theme of introducing the first doctor of colour.
Another theory certain fans have is the separation was so the 14th Doctor could finally settle down and enjoy life being in one spot and not constantly moving around hence the scene with Donna and her family at the end leading David's doctor to become a curator later on like Tom Baker in the 50th anniversary special with Ncuti's doctor being the healed version of Tennant itself.
Having watched David and Matt growing up Ncuti's doctor maybe a cross-version of both people in terms of mannerisms and whatnot.

You were just a little kid wen Mel rode in the TARDIS.
