This show started in 2005. It airs Monday nights at 8:00 PM on CBS.
The primary character, Ted Mosby, played by Josh Radnor, with narration by Bob Saget, in the year 2030, recounts to his son and daughter the events that led to his meeting their mother, which explains the title of the show and allows for a narration in the past tense.
How I Met Your Mother follows Ted alongside his friends Lily Aldrin, played by Alyson Hannigan (Willow on Buffy), Marshall Eriksen, played by Jason Segel, Robin Scherbatsky, played by Cobie Smulders, (who is Canadian, by the way, like the character she plays on the show), and Barney Stinson, played by Neil Patrick Harris.
I really like this show. Does anyone else here like it?

Well, it's over. Last Forever, the final episode of How I Met Your Mother, aired not too long ago. Since the show has ended, I've moved the thread here. As for the episodes itself, below was taken from Wikipedia: In a flashback to September 2005, Ted, Marshall, Lily, and Barney accept Robin into their group. Lily tells Ted and Barney that she really likes Robin and wants to keep her around, but decrees that neither Ted nor Barney can hook up with her unless they marry her. Barney scoffs at the idea. In May 2013, Ted discusses his upcoming move to Chicago with Marshall and Lily during Barney and Robin's wedding reception. Barney recognizes the bass player as the woman who advised him to pursue Robin. When he hears she's single, he wants to play "Have You Met Ted", but Ted says he has to leave to get ready to move the next day. Outside, the gang says their goodbyes in the rain as Ted congratulates Robin on her marriage, and does a final high-five with Barney, resulting in the two hurting each other and delaying Ted's departure as he ices his hand.
Ted goes to the Farhampton Train Station, but his train is late. He tells an elderly lady about his weekend, to which she asks him many questions about destiny. She looks up and spots the Mother standing a few feet away, but Ted insists he can’t talk to her because of his impending move. The next night, Marshall and Lily go to MacLaren’s, sad over the fact Ted is gone, but they see him sitting at their table. Ted tells them he decided to stay in New York because he met a girl, which initially makes Marshall and Lily angry because of the emotional farewell he put them through, but their anger turns into excitement when they learn it’s the bass player from the wedding. As Ted leaves to go call her (breaking his three days rule), Marshall is skeptical of Ted falling in love so fast, but Lily says this time it feels different.
In 2015, Ted, now engaged, meets Robin and Barney at MacLaren’s to discuss wedding ideas. As Robin goes to buy drinks, Barney confesses their marriage is suffering because of Robin’s rising career, which requires her to travel frequently. The Mother shows up and tells Ted they have to delay their September wedding because she is pregnant. In May 2016, Ted and the Mother (who have moved into the house that Ted bought and fixed up) have an evening together with the rest of the gang. Marshall is miserable at his new job, having been forced to go back to being a corporate lawyer. Barney and Robin reveal that the constant traveling for Robin's work has put a strain on them as a couple, and after three years of marriage, they felt it wasn't working out and got a divorce. However, the mood turns positive when Barney figures out that Marshall and Lily are expecting their third child. Everyone is ecstatic at the news, but Lily is still worried about the group breaking apart. Robin promises that she'll always be there for the big moments in their lives and everyone will remain friends.
In October 2016, Marshall and Lily discuss their crowded living arrangements with the impending arrival of their third child, and decide its finally time to move out of the apartment. At the final Halloween roof party, Robin shows up and finds that Ted is still wearing his “hanging chad” costume and the Mother wearing a Gore-Lieberman 2000 shirt to match him, along with Barney returning to his womanizing ways. Overcome with sadness, Robin decides to leave, confessing to Lily that she can’t be in the gang anymore because everyone has an emotional attachment and she might still have unresolved feelings for Ted. She tells Lily they will always be friends, but the days of being young and stupid while hanging out at MacLaren’s are over, leaving a heartbroken Lily alone in the empty apartment.
In 2018, Barney gets ready for another "legendary" night at MacLaren's, even though Ted and Lily, both being parents, aren't intending to stay out late. Marshall arrives and announces he has been selected to replace a retiring judge in Queens, which prompts a celebration. Later, when Barney attempts to score with a young woman, Lily blasts him for fully regressing into his previous self. Barney defends his behavior by telling her he knows that if he couldn't make a marriage to Robin work, he'll never make it work with anyone. Lily relents, and Barney leaves to enjoy his night.
In 2019, while Ted, the Mother, Marshall and Lily are at Robots vs. Wrestlers, a depressed Barney shows up to say that while he recently completed a “perfect month", the last woman is pregnant with his child. In 2020, Ted runs into Robin, who is now a famous news reporter, while showing Penny the GNB building he designed. Later, Marshall, Lily, and Ted await the birth of Barney's child. After throwing up in the bathroom, Barney is told that he has a daughter named Ellie and is led in to meet her. Despite his initial worry and denial, Barney is moved to tears, and this leads him to finally change his ways.
At Ted and the Mother’s house, Ted re-proposes to the Mother because it has been five years since they got engaged, and says they are finally getting married the following Thursday. Before the wedding, the gang, including Robin, meets up at MacLaren’s. Marshall announces that he is running for New York State Supreme Court. Lily gives a toast of praise to Ted for all he has been through, and Future Ted states he never stopped loving the Mother for a second, which became very important in 2024, when the Mother became terminally ill and passed away.
Returning to May 2013, Ted gets the courage to introduce himself to the bass player, and she invites him underneath her yellow umbrella. The two engage in a conversation where she tells Ted she remembers him from when he accidentally taught her Economics class on his first day as a professor. Ted realizes that her umbrella is his umbrella that he left at Cindy's and even has his initials on it, but the woman tells him that T.M. are her initials by revealing her name to be Tracy McConnell. Ted continues his conversation with Tracy as the train arrives.
In 2030, Future Ted finishes by saying, "and that, kids, is how I met your mother." Penny and Luke protest the point of the story, and deduce that it was actually about how he still has feelings for their "Aunt" Robin. Ted brushes it off, but his kids remind him that they love Robin and there's still a connection between the two of them.
In the final scene, Ted goes to Robin's apartment with the blue French horn, and they smile at each other.
Needless to say, many have mixed feelings about this, me included. Many fans figured ages ago that they would find a way to get Ted and Robin back together again. Having the Mother, Tracy, die tragically, was such a way (it was never said what her illness was, but I'm assuming cancer). Ted and Robin had become the Ross and Rachel of this show, and they just had to end things with them together. Seems the writers wanted to have their cake and eat it too. As the show went on, the writers kept dropping hints that the two of them belonged together. In the pilot, Ted referred to her as "Aunt Robin", indicating that she was not the mother of Penny and Luke, his kids. Of course, that's true, she's not their birth mother, but it seems she will become their step mother. Online debate is ongoing about the finale. Some love it, some hate it. As for me, I'm kind of in the middle of the road. It was okay, but there was room for improvement. All the buildup to Barney and Robin's wedding. Fifteen minutes or so into the finale, it's revealed that they've divorced (after three years of marriage). Since this whole final season was devoted to that wedding, you're left wondering why we wasted so much time on doomed marriage. Marshall and Lily were okay here. They would have three kids. Ah, well, regardless, I'm gonna miss this show. How I Met Your Mother: 2005-2014

Among the many guest stars of this show were Buffy veterans Harry Groener, Amy Acker, and Seth Green.
Of course, Alyson Hannigan was also on Buffy. Kind of a wink to Buffy fans, I guess.

Many fans hated the way the show ended. I know I mean why have Ted go through the process of meeting the mother Tracy the whole point of the show only for her die and then have him go back with Robin. It doesn't make sense really so I can see people like the alternate ending instead.

And why was the whole last season devoted to a marriage that was doomed to fail (Barney and Robin). This upset a lot of fans as well.
Did they really have to do the Ross/Rachel thing? On Friends, it was expected, but this was not Friends.

Yeah the one fans preferred obviously and the one the show should've gone with originally otherwise what's the point of calling it How I Met Your Mother in the first place then.

There are rumours floating around of a revival of this show (already??).
Well, if they do revive it, they can retcon out that horrible finale (like Will & Grace and Rosanne retconned theirs out). Or make the alternate ending the real one (say that future where the mother died was all a dream).

Why on earth are they bringing this back? Seriously the last season, I heard was horrible, and fans hated it.
It's too soon to bring this show back. I heard a show I've never seen named Gossip Girl (CW show) is also being brought back, that only ended in 2013.
I have to admit, the reboots and revivals are truly getting out of hand. I'm really over it all, when are they going to make new shows. We haven't had a new, original and quality show in over a decade. Everything these days is based on a comic, novel, or a remake, reboot or revival. I just haven't seen something that hasn't been done before in a long time.

The fans did hate the last season, I know, I was one of them. And don't even get me started on the finale!
The only good thing a revival could do, IMO, would be to retcon that finale out of existence.
However, I think they're just talking about it right now.
