So Jughead continues his hunt for his grandfather. Also loved Gina Torres in this episode guest-starring as a councillor. She was so natural. I know her from Hercules, Xena, Angel, and Vampire Diaries. Yes, Nebula on Hercules and Cleopatra on Xena. I know her well from those.

Yep. She is a pretty good actress, playing so many different roles.

We meet Jugheads grandfather. Turns out he regrets leaving his family. But when Jughead told his dad, he came back to his trailer and found it empty and he's gone.
The whole plot with picking up the phone and some going crazy and atracking people. Reminds me of the X Files episode Blood. That’s also what I thought of when they were watching the tapes. Also it does feel like there’s some kind of hypnosis element. I think it could be one of the more “logical” outcomes and could tie Jughead’s storyline to the tapes storyline.

The comics writers probably never even thought it this.
I still think that the Archie thing was a last minute addition. You could remove the Archie stuff and still have basically the same show.

I haven't seen the comics, but I would not be surprised it is more in line with the current comics like Sabrina is based on the darker comics of today, maybe Archie is like that today. Appears all the stuff that happened in comics back 30-40 years, won't work in today's television. Especially, since standalone's are so rare these days. Everything has to be part of an arc.
I find it interesting because Supernatural is like one of the few shows that still do stand-alone episodes for 15 years, guess it helps it was a show that started when that was still a thing.
It bugs me Christmas episodes are not much of a thing these days. I prefer those as stand alone's, because, I like a feel-good episode. Mixing Christmas with story arcs, just never sits well with me.

Most shows that do Christmas episodes these days are sitcoms.

That's right. You rarely do. I really admire the British productions, for producing Christmas specials for some of their shows, and MAKING them STANDALONE. That is how you do a Christmas episode.

I wonder what the early writers of Archie comics would think of this show?

The mid-season finale was interesting. Really wondering what Jughead's grandmother is running away from. He doesn't want to see his own son when the word got out they invited him to visit Jughead's dad in hospital after a little injury when Jughead came back to the trailer, it was cleared out.
