Apparently, it does very well online: deadline.com/2017/03/riverdale-renewed-season-2-the-cw-archie-comics-1202038629/While the shows are on different networks (so it's not entirely a 1:1 comparison), I do find it funny that Riverdale is averaging similar, if not slightly worse, ratings as PLL's final season. Which happens to be PLL's lowest rated season ever, mind you. How is Riverdale struggling to even match the ratings of an aging, jumped-the-shark-years-ago show like PLL? And, it's not like PLL isn't a "more people watch it online" kind of show, either.

As I said, I suspect Riverdale was originally conceived with original characters. However, perhaps they didn't want to be compared to shows such as Pretty Little Liars and Twin Peaks, so they thought they could fool us by sticking the Archie characters in. However, the audience saw through their little trick.

However, the audience saw through their little trick. I think it's pretty obvious that this happened. Someone pitched an original idea for a teen murder mystery to the CW, and the CW was afraid of greenlighting a show with such a similar premise as PLL, so the idea was modified to include Archie characters, thinking that would get people's attention. It's nothing more than a cheap gimmick.

Well I'm surprised the Black Hood mystery has been resolved after half a season. But I commend Riverdale for not dragging out a mystery for several seasons like some shows do.
I actually really enjoyed the final episode of the year. The pacing was great and I really liked Betty and Archie being a team and working together.
The Twin Peaks homage with Black Hood climbing over the couch for Betty's Christmas nightmare was great. Madchen Amick (who also played Wendy on Witches of East End) was on Twin Peaks if I recall.

After Pretty Little Liars, I'm thrilled to see mysteries and unmasking bad guys are done after a season or half a season. I did think they did a good job. Nice we got a Christmas themed episode too. Never seen Twin Peaks, it came out when I would have been about 2 or 3 years old. But I did find the nightmare creepy.

Yep, Madchen Amick played Shelley Johnson on Twin Peaks.
Twin Peaks was clearly one of the inspirations for this show. Just as TP opened around the murder of Laura Palmer, this show opened around the murder of Jason Blossom.
Odd to see the world of Archie crossed with that of David Lynch, but here it is.

It does have some inspiration and your right about Jason Blossom. It is odd they got inspired and Archie's world has a mix of David Lynch. But I guess it is working.

I'm surprised that David Lynch is not producing this.
I recognize the name of the actor who plays Jughead, Cole Sprouse. He, and his twin brother, Dylan, were on the original Full House, playing the Twin Sons of Jesse and Becky.

Definitely. I can't stand when they drag things forever. It is a nice change of pace and is fun. I'm surprised that David Lynch is not producing this. I recognize the name of the actor who plays Jughead, Cole Sprouse. He, and his twin brother, Dylan, were on the original Full House, playing the Twin Sons of Jesse and Becky. I didn't even know that. I know they starred in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody opposite Kim Rhodes (who plays Jody) she played their mother in the show. Which is why fans are dying for her to play Jughead's mother on Riverdale.

Oh yeah, I remember that show.
Having Kim appear as Jug's mom would be a nice tip of that hat.

It's good to see they are not dragging things out. It is a nice change of pace and is fun. Well at Christmas time, I love seeing my Christmas themed episodes. Oh yeah, I remember that show. Having Kim appear as Jug's mom would be a nice tip of that hat. I liked the show actually, the first time I saw Kim Rhodes in anything. It took me a while to notice it was her on Supernatural. She was also in Star Trek: Voyager too, another show I love. It would be wonderful if she did appear as Jug's mom don't you think.

And then she tells Jug that he has a twin brother that he never knew about, to be played by Dylan Sprouse, of course. Hey, writers, are you listening. And I remember that Voyager episode that Kim was in too

I wonder if Jughead in this show is anything like his comic book counterpart. The guy who can down 50 hamburgers in one sitting.
Of course, this is a more serious look at the world of Archie, so perhaps not.
I loved Archie comics when I was a kid. Jughead was my favourite character.

I really like Jughead in the show, I don't know much about him from the comics but I can see from his photos he looked like fun. Yeah, they have mentioned how Jughead can eat a lot. Especially when he goes to Pops and eats saying he is starving.
