Sounds like an interesting novel. However, it's not available in English.
Sounds like this character loves his cat like I love little Tatiana.

If anyone is interested, here are some photos of the last Russian Imperial Family with their pets. They were great animal lovers. All their lives, they were surrounded by pets. Some of them are quite famous : Joy, the last spaniel of Alexei who was the only survivor of the slaughter of the Ipatiev house, and Ortipo who refused to leave her mistress, Grand Duchess Tatiana, and was then killed with her. The Romanovs didn't have only dogs. They were also cat-lovers, especially Grand Duchess Olga. The following link is about all their pets: www.theromanovfamily.com/the-romanov-family-pets/And this one is about Vaska, Grand Duchess Olga's cat: www.theromanovfamily.com/grand-duchess-olgas-cat/

These are lovely pictures, Tess.
You don't hear much about the IF's cats. The dogs, yes, but never the cats. I wonder why that is.

I have thought about it and I guess it's because they didn't have a tragic end or a miraculous saving, like the IF's dogs. As far as I know they were not present in the Ipatiev house when the killing began.
It's just an opinion, really. I could very well be wrong...

No, I think you're right about this, Tess.
I think the cats were left behind in the Alexander Palace when the IF was moved to Tobolsk. What became of them after that, I don't know. Hopefully someone found and adopted them.

No I think the IF took at least one cat with them to Tobolsk. However it's true that they gave their other cats (some or all, I don't know) to their friends in St. Petersburg.
Let me do some research about it. I'll dig in the Romanovs letters books I have and come back at you later when I have found those informations.

Okay, Tess. I really want to know what became of those cats (just the cat lover in me). That's true, Jana. How many people can claim to have had a pet elephant

Check this out: "31. 7.1917. Chere Nini, Le Petit Vous demande beaucoup d’avoir soin de son chat, que Votre mari lui a donnez — car c’est impossible de le prendre en voyage et Vous aimez les animaux. Que Dieu Yous garde. J ’espere que Marie E. vous a donne ma lettre. Vous embrasse de tout coeur. A. "It's a French letter written by the Tsarina to a friend of the IF, In said letter Alexandra asked that person to take good care of Alexei's cat and explained they have to leave it behind because they can't take it with them in the journey [to Tobolsk]. So we know at least one of their cats found a new home and (it seems) a good one, as Alexandra called her friend "an animal lover". That being said, I have no idea what was the fate of the others cats, especially, Vaska (Olga's cat). I thought I read a mention of a cat in their Tobolsk correspondence but so far I have been unable to find that particular letter. Well I'll continue my research. I'll keep you informed of the results of course. In the meantime you can enjoy these photos of the Romanovs and their beloved little companions (yeah cats are amazing !):

OTMA had tabby cats. My cat, Tatiana, is a tabby.
Interesting how that worked out.

And perhaps the cat Tatiana is petting while she's reading is named "Tatiana" as well. Who knows? It could be... That would be very funny.
One thing I'm sure of, she would have approved of you naming your cat "Tatiana". She would have been touched to see she was still remembered even today.

I agree.
And I'm sure Olga would feel the same way about you naming your dog after her.
