Jughead's Time Police Omnibus Year of publication: 2018
In the late 1980's and early 90's, Archie Comics entered into an experimental phase. They did stories that were way out there, since as Archie 3000, Dilton's Weird Science, and this, Jughead's Time Police.
In this storyline, Jughead is approached by Marshall January McAndrews, from the 29th Century, who tells him that he is destined to became a famous historical figure. Apparently, one day, Jughead will have a dream, that gives him an idea that greatly helps humanity (just what this idea is is never revealed). However, some criminals, from the future, have come back in time to eliminate Jughead, before that can happen. Together, Jughead and January manage to stop them.
Later, January returns and tells Jughead that someone, from further into the future than her time, wants Jug in the Time Police. To prove this, she brings along a beanie from the future, that has time travelling elements in it. Jug can now travel in time himself, and he often helped January protect the time line.
Also, Jughead and January become romantically involved. Since January is a descendant of Archie Andrews, the Archie/Jughead shippers sure had fun with this one!
One thing that did bother me, and this was minor. I found it unnecessary for Jughead to say: "January McAndrews, Archie's descendant from the future." in every single issue. We all knew who January was by this time.
And there was a blooper in issue 3. In that issue, Hot Dog (Jughead's dog) gets a hold of Jughead's beanie and begins travelling through time.
One of Hot Dog's stops is in Egypt, during the reign of Cleopatra. While there, Hot Dog startles a cat, which jumps on Cleopatra's lap. The people there take it as a sign that cats are sacred. Hot Dog is horrified because he believes he just started cat worship in Egypt. No, Hot Dog, you didn't. Egyptians were worshipping cats LONG before the time of Cleopatra!
Still, this was a enjoyable series. Nice to see Jughead and January patrolling and protecting the time stream several years before Time Cop did it.
10/10 for me.

My Review of Jughead's Time Police Omnibus
Jughead and January become romantically involved I liked this relationship. But watching Riverdale, I'm too used to Jughead and Betty.
I liked seeing Jughead and January patrolling and protecting.
I had fun reading it, and now want to look for others.
10/10

This was a fun blend of Archie comics and science fiction. I mean when you hear time travel, you don't automatically think Jughead.
Too bad this series didn't continue. I would have loved to see where they took Jughead and Janauary's relationship next.

I would have loved if they continued the story.

I wonder where this story would have gone, has the series continued.
What would have happened between Jughead and January? Would they have continued their romance, despite being separated by almost a thousand years (talk abut a long distance relationship)?
Would they have fought other criminals, who wanted to mess with time? Morgan Le Fay was the only recurring one (she appeared in two issues). I wonder if they had plans for any other recurring villians.
Would Jughead have eventually let Archie and his other friends in on the secret?
I guess we'll never know.

So much to consider, I guess we'll never know. More power for people to write what happens next.

January McAndrews is a descendant of Archie Andrews. I wonder when the "Mc" was added?
In the first story, Jughead asks January whom Archie ultimately marries, Betty or Veronica. January replies that Archie was going to marry one of them, but changed his mind and married the other. However, before Jan can reveal which one it was, the bad guys break in and she doesn't have a chance to finish.
As far as I know, Jug never pursued this issue again. Perhaps he felt that he shouldn't know too much about the future of his close friends. I presume that, Jan has all the information about Jughead and his friends in her historical database, including the days they died. Who would want to know that!?

I know you all have waited for my review. Finally reviewing it now. A wonderful job of blending Archie comics and science fiction. This really made the story interesting. Jughead and January were just so great together. It really kept me interested. I wished they did another one. I'd love if January was a character on Riverdale, not sure how they'd do it though.

New Jughead's Time Police Omnibus Year of publication: 2019
A few years ago, Archie Comics went through a huge change. The characters were updated to more modern art and such (clearly inspired by the TV show, Riverdale). The writers chose to revisit some old stories and such. Thirty years ago, Jughead's Time Police came out (and was collected in an omnibus edition in 2018, which I reviewed above). Now the rebooted Archie comics decided to do their own version.
In this story, Jughead is distraught over blowing a pie eating contest. The guy is so down that, when Archie says that if only Juggie could go back in time and fix it, Jughead leaps on the idea. To build a time machine, Jughead dragoons Dilton Doiley and Kevin Kellner into helping him.
When the time machine is completed, Jughead sends himself back in time to make sure he does the pic correctly. However, while in the past, present Jughead is spotted by his past self. Oops! When he tries to fix this mistake, that's where January McAndrews shows up, and takes Jug to the 29th Century, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
You see, not only is time travel involved in this story, but alternate realities. Archie Comics has adopted a DC like multiverse, and Jughead ends up meeting many different versions of himself. Such versions include the original 1941 Jughead, Captain Hero, Zombie Jug, and even a Jughead that looks like Cole Sprouse (who plays him on Riverdale). Hilarity ensues.
One thing I noticed in this version was that January McAndrews never specifically identifies herself as Archie's descendant. She starts to say something, ut is interrupted before she can finish.
And there is a blooper as Jughead starts calling her Jan before she introduces herself. How does he know this?
While the original version will always have a place in my heart, I did enjoy this new version. While it was jarring to see the characters drawn so differently from what I was used to, I got used to it. And it was nice to see Kevin Kellner as part of the group (he was the first openly gay character to appear in Archie Comics).
So if you like the original, I think you might like this one too.
10/10
