Yes I would like to hear of something I've not seen or read before been produced I mean look at all these young minds out there going into film, television or theater brimming with ideas in their heads which could be used if people let them.
Or at least wait a generation or so. I mean they didn't reboot Magnum P.I. until 2018, thirty years after the original show ended.

I know I've said this before, but when I look at the current state of TV and film, I just feel disgusted.
If it's not a reboot, then it's a franchise sequel, rinse and repeat. Sure, they may sometimes racebend/genderbend a few characters or make a few characters LGBT for the sake of being "woke" and adding diversity, but at the end of the day, they're still banking on a familiar name and a familiar story over an original idea. The studios and networks have become so obsessed with their bottom line that they won't even try new things anymore.
What we are seeing, right here, is capitalism killing art.

Nothing on television that is bringing something new to the table. AT ALL!
And the sad part is I do read some really interesting shows, that in the end, the Networks don't pick up, because they go for the cheap reboot, revival, something based on a book or movie, or even something based on something from a foreign country or a superhero show.
The CW I have to be honest hasn't picked up or done something new in probably a decade. You go back 10 years and almost everything they have picked up has not been even remotely original. And what's sad, is The CW has turned down so many pilots that I read that ARE new and original, but don't pick them up, and instead pick up another reboot or another Superhero show.

I guess they're afraid that, if it's not familiar, the audience will head to Netflix, or something like that.
If the old days, one only had two other networks to worry about. Now it's a gazillion channels and streaming stuff.

I sooo feel your frustration. If it seems like I have little interest in new TV shows and movies nowadays, THIS is why. I don't want cheapo remakes of stuff from 20 years ago, nor do I give a crap about the latest superhero franchise. There's no variety or originality. What a waste. I guess they're afraid that, if it's not familiar, the audience will head to Netflix, or something like that. If the old days, one only had two other networks to worry about. Now it's a gazillion channels and streaming stuff. It's not Netflix or any other streaming service they're afraid of. It's YouTube. With the advent of video hosting sites, people can now easily create and share their own movies and TV shows. Sure, a lot of it's crap, but a lot of it is just as good (if not better) than what Hollywood puts out. And, Hollywood hates that. With more and more people turning to independent creators online for entertainment (and becoming independent creators themselves), there's fewer people to plunk down $$$ for Hollywood's offerings. Even worse, people also use these same sites to share Hollywood's offerings to worldwide audiences for free (Oh noes!), which only takes more cash out of the bigwigs' pockets. So, this is why we have a million subscription streaming services. And, why YouTube keeps demonetizing the videos of independent creators. And, why YouTube keeps sending out copyright crackdowns over the smallest things. And, why everything is a damn franchise or reboot nowadays. Hollywood is trying to squeeze out every last drop of $$$ they can in the internet era. This can't last forever, and when it ends, it'll be ugly.

Cast in point, Star Trek Continues. A fan made series, which managed to attract professional actors as guest stars.
I'll take this over STD any day.

A lot of this is also why the legitimization of fanfiction (and fanart) is still controversial. It's a way for fans to show love for a movie/TV show/book without spending $$$ on merchandise, and that pisses off loads of people in Hollywood. They're incapable of seeing the value in things that aren't being bought/sold. To them, TV shows are just commodities to help line the pockets of themselves and their advertisers, and fanfiction completely flies in the face of that thinking. And, the sick irony is that all of these reboots, revivals, and adaptations we've been seeing are technically AU fanfics, themselves. But, because they have corporate Hollywood backing and are being made for the purpose of making $$$, they're seen as "legitimate," unlike someone's story on FF.net.

I'll die before admitted that STD is any legitimate part of the True Star Trek. And I'm sure a few Star Wars fans feel the same way about what The Mouse has done to their franchise.
Rumour has it that the CBS Swindlers wanted to shut fan made Trek productions down because fans liked them better than STD.

The CBS Swindlers are at it again!
The sitcom was already a massive step down from the movie, so I don't even remotely see how Clueless will benefit from being turned into a poor man's PLL. And, of course, it's gonna be centered around Dionne, because the CBS Swindlers need to show us how "woke" they are, even though they could've just as easily, uh, made a new teen drama starring a black girl.

You're right, Betty. They could have made an original TV show and basically used the same premise.
And based on Clueless!? A movie that came out before most people who stream were even born? What's the sense behind that??

And based on Clueless!? A movie that came out before most people who stream were even born? What's the sense behind that?? Reading this just made me feel a million years old. If CBS really wants to start selling Dionne Davenport as a cool/woke black female role model, they'll have to address the elephant in the room -- her actor went on to become a hateful, ignorant bigot. Last month, Stacey Dash filed paperwork to run for Congress. If she were to win, she would represent the 44th district of California, which includes the cities of Compton and Watts. This should concern you, and here’s one reason why: On Thursday, in her first interview since launching her candidacy, she used her time to back up President Donald Trump and express sympathy for neo-Nazis.
“I'm not here to judge,” Dash said on MSNBC. “The only one who can judge is god. Do I know every person in the neo-Nazi party, if they have a good heart or not? No, I don't.”
Is that a fair statement? It’s true in that she literally does not know every member of the neo-Nazi party. But you can’t take it out of context. One glance at the gaps on her IMDB page will tell you Stacey was in desperate need of a break. At the end of Barack Obama’s first term, our girl reinvented herself. She switched political parties from Democrat to Republican, but she couldn’t do it in silence like most red-blooded Americans. Nope. She chose to jump on Twitter and throw her public support behind Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan in the 2012 election. As the tweet made headlines, Dash was suddenly popular again. She had caught the attention of Conservatives, and she pounced.
Fox News hired her in 2014 as a contributor for "cultural analysis and commentary,” and she worked hard to earn her keep. She opened her mouth and made statements like, "There shouldn’t be a Black History Month. We're Americans. Period."
And nevermind that she appeared in music videos by black male artists that were aired on BET. She railed against the network as well saying, "Either we want to have segregation or integration. And if we don't want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards and the [NAACP] Image Awards, where you're only awarded if you're black. If it were the other way around, we would be up in arms. It's a double standard." Yes, the character =/ actor, but like it or not, Stacey Dash will forever be linked with Dionne, so the character IS strongly associated with someone who is a horrible person. It will have to take some VERY strong writing and casting to rehabilitate the character's image, which I highly doubt we will see with a cash-grab reboot like this. This is just another reason why CBS should've greenlit a new show with this premise instead. A new character would not be carrying Stacey Dash's hateful Faux News baggage.

Heck, I feel like The Mummy sometimes myself.
WTF!?!? A black woman supporting Trump!? Wouldn't this be a like a Jewish person supporting the Nazi Party?
According to Wikipedia, she eventually dropped out of the race. Probably realized that no one would vote for her.
Typical Rethuglican hypocrisy.
Like the CBS Swindlers care about that.

Not surprised, more reboots.
When was the last original show I actually watched? I'll have to think back a decade or more. The last big hits of television were the late 2000s, when shows like Lost, Desperate Housewives or Supernatural just to name a few.
I'm with you guys, everything this last decade comes from a reboot, revival, adaption of a book or from the comics.
