In flashback form I assume so we find out more about her life before.

I noticed that the sisters were wearing the same outfits from Episode 1 in a few of the photos. This likely means that the episode will pick up from right where the first one left off.

It's possible that the story of how they got their powers will span a few episodes. That is the common way of doing things now.

Interesting, and with what was spoiled about the cliffhanger in episode 1, I love we'll get to see more reactions beginning episode 2. I also love that we get to see more of the mother. One problem the original faced was how little we saw of backstories. We barely got anything that wasn't an easy fix with time travel. More flashbacks and less dead relatives showing up all the time, and making death feel meaningless. I'd have loved to have seen backstories with the sisters growing up with Grams, maybe how Patty meets Victor, their wedding and so on. Let's hope this reboot will allow the viewers to see more of the mother's life and flashbacks. I feel having her use the spirit board to contact her daughters is much better than her ghost showing up all the time. How come Kernus didn't let Prue do this to talk to her sisters, it didn't require Shannen present. Of course, he would do anything to remove Prue's memory from the show.

I would've loved having Prue or Patty even Grams communicating via the spirit board and having Prue take over from Grams flipping the pages of the book keeping her memory alive that way for fans without showing her face like you said Katie.

I certainly hope that things will be different now and the authors will fix some mistakes as well as concentrate on the Wicca more instead of the sisters. Though both could/can be done.

Yeah, if they have Wicca in this series, get it right. Don't just play it for laughs.

I hope they deal with the mother's death more like the way the earlier seasons of PLL dealt with Alison's death -- an ongoing mystery that drives the show along. Make her death actually mean something instead of just being a fridging that serves no purpose besides giving the girls their powers (like Grams' death). And, on top of seeing more flashbacks (instead of ghosts constantly dropping in), I'd also love to see an episode set entirely in the past akin to " The First Secret" from PLL. That would be a great way to show us how things were like for the sisters before their mother died (and the possible events that eventually resulted in her death) without having to resort to time travel/clip show shenanigans.

I agree. This should be an ongoing mystery for the Charmed Ones to solve, once they get their powers sorted out and such. It should be something that drives the first half of the season, IMO.

Perhaps the big bad the sister's could defeat the first season is what killed their mother.

Could be. They defeat the first big bad, and avenge their mother at the same time.

That would be a great way to show us how things were like for the sisters before their mother died (and the possible events that eventually resulted in her death) without having to resort to time travel/clip show shenanigans. That would be such a great thing to do. We can follow her last days or months of her lives leading to her death. Also, we'll get backstories on her giving up Macy. This is the best way to open the show. I wished Grams had died in the first episode, and Jeremy had killed her. I just felt you could have turned Charmed into a two-part opener if they incorporated the Pre-Witched flashbacks into the pilot and had Grams death being shown to open the series. Why not have Grams tell the girls about their destiny on her death-bed. Maybe Grams doesn't have a heart attack but is attacked by a demon or warlock stopping her from using that power stripping potion, and then she decides well, she has a change of heart and tells them, but passes away in hospital following heart problems. I liked the novel The Power of Three, in it, Melinda Warren appeared to Phoebe, and many things were different than the real first episode. It was a good novel and would have been a better script. I'd love if they did an episode like that. More flashbacks, fewer ghost visits. Let the spirit board be how we see her communicating with them.

Yeah, both Mom and Grams were dead when the original series started. At least here we get to see the mother, before she dies, and how the sisters deal with it.
And it will be nice to see the mother at this point, someone who had been part of the sister's lives, not someone who'd already been dead for twenty years when the series started.

I agree. I think it's the perfect way to set the story, and I like this set-up. I'd love to see fanfic stories where fans do use Grams in the first episode and her death being how the sisters find out, not her dead before it starts. I like how they have used the mother. I'm very interested to see and learn if any of the fathers are alive. If they have any cousins or an aunt or something. Let the sisters have a family, and not be so isolated. Why not have a family member who lives in another state or town, and so she can pop in and out of the story. Maybe turn a family member into the big bad of a season, that would be a neat twist, let someone close to them being the bad guy for a change.
