Since we're living in an era of increased racial awareness, can we finally dump the phrase "Young Turk"? It's been popularly used as a synonym for "radical free-thinker." It's the name of a Rod Stewart song. It's the name of a "progressive" news network (that happens to be run by a gross misogynist and genocide denier). But, the original Young Turks weren't even remotely "progressive," "radical," or "free-thinking." They were literal proto-Nazis. They were violently racist ultra-nationalists that considered anybody who wasn't Turkish to be subhuman and worthy of death. To use "Young Turk" as a synonym for "progressive" is akin to waving the Confederate flag in the name of "Southern pride." It's whitewashing a history of racism and genocide. You're effectively telling Armenians and Assyrians that their genocides were justified.

I've never used the term myself.
What was done to the Armenians a century ago as a crime on par with the Holocaust and the Killing Fields. Anyone thinking it was a good thing is mentally deranged.

What I never get is that people like Erdogan use a pandemic situation to get their own dreams true. After all, he's President of Turkey and has shown his "fantasy" back to the Ottoman Empire long before. It's simply sad.

If he wants to restore the Ottoman Empire, one nation he would have to conquer is Israel. And the Israelis don't pussyfoot around when they're attacked.

Those poor Armenians. Can't these people ever catch a break!?

Those poor Armenians. Can't these people ever catch a break!? That's what happens when you're a racial and ethnic minority. They have no real "safe space" anywhere besides Armenia itself, which is small, impoverished, and surrounded by extremely hostile neighbors (Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia).

Once again it's like the unpopular kid in the schoolyard that the bullies always pick on. Said kid can't fight back and just has to endure it and hope that he won't get beaten up so badly this time.
And Turkey is meanest and toughest of said bullies.

The Vlad strikes again. He just sold out Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan. With The Vlad no longer interested in keeping Armenia around as a colony "ally," I don't see what's stopping Turkey and Azerbaijan from just invading the country and wiping it off the map. I guess, they may still be worried about upsetting Iran (which has close ethnic/cultural ties with Armenia), but Iran has large Azeri minority that supports siding with Azerbaijan. The US and Western Europe should probably get ready for another wave of Armenian immigrants and refugees. Luckily, we'll have Biden in the White House instead of the Orange Racist next year.

The Armenian people get another kick in the teeth.
While we've been moaning about Covid-19, these poor people have been slaughtered and driven from their homes.
As you said, Betty, Biden will no doubt be more helpful to these people than Orange ever was.

The Middle East has become extremely hostile to non-Muslims over the last few decades. Islamofascist movements have risen as a response to Western imperialism, and because of it, ethno-religious minorities face looming genocide. Not just Armenians, but also Assyrians, Kurds, Yezidis, and countless other groups. This is the end goal of Turkey and Azerbaijan. They want to join together in a large, unified Turkic state, and tiny Armenia is literally the only thing standing in their way. Ethnic cleansing seems inevitable at this point.

Poor Armenia is like the skinny kid in the schoolyard that the big bullies are always beating up.
The Armenians have a culture all their own. Too bad that most Americans only know Armenia through the KarTRASHian creatures.

If I remember correctly, Armenian people were the first ones to accept the upcoming Christianism and made it their own. That has to count, but obviously not. *sighs*

Guess not. Considering what those poor people have had to endure for the last 100 years.
