So the 12 finalists of Belarus' national finals have just been announced after the live auditions took place. Here they are in alphabetical order + a short review of each entry:
1. Anastasiya Glamozda - Burning Again
To be honest, this song might be radio-friendly but it wouldn't on Eurovision in most cases - unless a memorable staging and music video is made for it.
2. Anastasiya Malashkevich - Invisible
Here's another one of those radio-friendly national finals entries, though unlike the previous one, this one might actually perform well in Eurovision. It just needs a good staging so that Belarus would be assured of a qualification to the finals.
3. Anastasiya Razvadovskaya - Hello
Like #1 on this list, it's radio friendly, but it wouldn't do well on Eurovision unless a memorable staging and music video is made for it.
4. Angelika Pushkova - True Love
This one is a bop to be honest, and if Belarus sends this to the Eurovision, it might place within the Top 10 of the finals. As for how this should be staged, maybe having two backing dancers is enough if Angelika plans to bring backing singers along. Having more than two backing dancers (+the backing singers) when you have a dance track in Eurovision does not always go well.
5. AURA - Barani svajo
This is among the only songs in Belarus' national finals this year that isn't sung in English, and also among those that stand out for a good reason. If Belarus sends this to the Eurovision this year, it has a good chance of winning the contest, especially if it comes with a spectacular staging.
6. Darya Khmelnitskaya - On Fire
Still among those radio friendly but won't do well in Eurovision entries.
7. Group CHAKRAS - La-ley-la
This is another potential Eurovision winner among the entries of Belarus' national finals. Sometimes, singing less brings out more of a song. It's the case for Nocturne by Secret Garden (Eurovision 1995 winner) and definitely the case for this song too.
8. KeySi - Chilli Pepper
This one's also a bop, but as to whether or not it's going to be a good entry for Belarus, that will depend on how the staging will be executed. At the most, I can see this song go through semi finals and end up in the Top 20 during the finals.
9. NAPOLI - Don't Let Me Down
Here's NAPOLI delivering memorable national finals entries again! She actually managed to come up with an entry that is both radio-friendly and Eurovision-friendly. The only improvements I could suggest is for her to not sing in falsetto for the chorus and to employ backing singers for the "Don't let me down" hook on the chorus. Besides that, the song is a strong contender to win Eurovision for Belarus this year.
10. Sasha Zakharik - Rocky Road
Another possible Eurovision winner for Belarus here. Upbeat tempo + memorable lyrics + strong vocals + good stage presence = a good chance to win the Eurovision! A good staging for this should involve projecting visuals on the LED screen, and either Sasha performing alone on stage or with her backing singers.
(on a side note, this song also reminds me of "The Show" by Lenka)
11. VAL - Da vidna
This is another entry of Belarus' national finals that isn't sung in English, but unlike AURA's entry, this wouldn't win the Eurovision for Belarus. It's more on the radio friendly side than the Eurovision friendly side.
12. Yan Yaroche - Fire
This song could very much pass as a Goo Goo Dolls or Evanescence single. If this were a Eurovision entry in the early 2000s, it could surely qualify to the finals. This might be the black horse of Belarus' national finals this year and if it does make it to Eurovision, it might qualify to the finals provided that the semi-finals that Belarus is performing in doesn't have a lot of ballads competing.
