Found a VERY handy listicle on Cracked: How To Spot Fake News From A Mile AwayOrange Hitler may have popularized the term through his Twitter meltdowns, but fake news is sadly a thing that exists, and social media is the main culprit of it. Social media's entire existence revolves around generating ad revenue through clicks, which means that ANYTHING can get passed around as a legit "news" story as long as it can still rack up those clicks. Be careful out there!

I know what you mean.
I take what I see on Twitter with a grain of salt (unless it's backed by reputable sources.

I know with the Coronavirus some criminals have took advantage of sending fake emails and news trying to get people's bank details or other things which is sickening to hear then.

Fake news has been on for a long time since the middle ages. Only Trump has made the term modern and brought out in the open. If the media is against him, fake news!! Pah!!

Which is why I don’t have Twitter, there’s too much fake news and craziness there. My younger brother is hooked on Twitter and it’s Coronavirus all the time on his feed along with doom and conspiracy theories, it’s making him anxious and scared since he takes it literally. I’m so glad I don’t do Twitter

Sometimes I find social media toxic, so much bullying and people just like to complain and fight with people behind a keyboard. Best to stay off all of that. Reading into that 24/7, is just not healthy.

While Social Media has been helpful in some ways (allowing you to stay connected to loved ones), it also provides a platform for every nut and crackpot out there.

Yeah as I've said before social media can be good for some things and not so good for others either.

Just be careful what you read.
I always make that precaution.

So much downside to social media, even if it has its good parts. I'm glad I'm not one who has to be on social media 24/7, and can't live without it.

Me too.
Of course, Jean, both you and I remember a world where no such thing existed. It's easier for us.

It would be so much easier for you two, this is nothing. If social media one day was no more, you'd cope fine, but for the younger generations, all hell would have broken loose here.

I wished I lived in that world. Really, I'd be happy with how it was in the 90s/early 00s, where all we had was the internet, but no social media. Honestly, it has its good parts, but if someone told me, it was going to ease to exist tomorrow, I wouldn't be crying. I really prefer message boards over social media platforms for discussions like this. I'd be anarchy in the streets! Exactly.
