I know. I felt sorry for Germany getting 0 points from the juries but smiled when they got 6 points from the public so no country ended up double nil points although Switzerland received no points from TV voters which were sad for them.
At least they did better with the juries.
I've seen comments online about how the UK scored high because of the help we've given Ukraine in terms of weapons and everything which some thought reflected in lots of European countries giving us 12 points when I think a lot of people just liked 'Spaceman' and the 2nd placement expressed that obviously.
President Zelensky said Eurovision next year would be held in Ukraine with Mariupol as the host city despite what's currently happening, although mum questioned could it happen actually and I replied yes but that Ukraine could have the UK as a backup country if things turned bad.
Whatever I'm just proud of Sam and the result we got which is the best since 2002 then.

Nice that Ukraine won, considering the current situation.

We always have long discussions here, may we lose or win. Music is music and each country has different tastes. That's why the ESC was founded so many years ago. Music as a bond before the political connections were tied up. Or earlier.

Exactly music's a universal bond that brings people together and should be respected whether people's tastes are different or not which's good otherwise things would be boring if we all liked the same genre or songs then.
Of course, the Eurovision community can be very toxic online sometimes as witnessed this week when Switzerland got through to the final over another country and some fans barraged Marius Bear's Twitter page which wasn't nice, or when Ukraine won Saturday evening and certain people commented on the countries YouTube grand final performance page saying how it was political and unfair that a better song like the UK or Spain hadn't won over them which I understood but thought those comments should've been kept to fans selves.
I did agree with some countries which I mentioned previously i.e. Azerbaijan and Australia should've got more public votes that even people in the stadium concurred but never hulled abuse at Ukraine who I congratulated winning even though I liked better songs than 'Stefania' obviously.

You can talk as much as you like about it but still, some fans will never learn. Even earlier the ESC was political and no one ever said anything. Saw that once in a documentary about it.

Some people are just poor sports.

That's true Tim yes. And you're correct Jana some people never change.
There was talk of Russia hacking the public voting system so Ukraine got no points but the EBU was aware of it and onto it so that didn't happen then.

Apparently, it was said to have been a pro-Russia hacking group and not Putin himself actually. Whether that was true or they'd worked for Vlad secretly no one knows of course.

Heard of it too. Now even musical votings are threatened by this! Just great.

Of course, Russia was barred from this years contest.

There have been concerns among fans that United Kingdom might win the Junior Eurovision this year (they have since returned after a 10+ years hiatus) and the Eurovision next year because of "pity votes" from the Queen's death but I think that's BS. If anything, UK could surely win JESC this year and ESC next year with a good song. This is the United Kingdom that we're talking about, they have made a 180-degree turn from sending songs that were made with minimal effort.

Yeah, that is silly.
The Queen's death should have no impact here.

Agreed. No way should Queen Elizabeth's passing have any effect on whether the UK wins Eurovision or not. That should only be if we had the best song, stage design and presence, and likability with people of course.
The reason Britain hasn't done well at Eurovision in the past 20 years is that we've sent rubbish songs.
Eurovision wasn't taken seriously by the BBC as I've previously mentioned. But getting double nil points last year shook them into withdrawing their contract under the current music company they had and going with a new one Tap Management who in turn selected Sam Ryder a person well-liked on Tik Tok having many followers and also by the media and other fans with an infectious personality who on top had a radio-friendly song and good voice standing the UK a decent chance of doing well this year which we did coming second.
The same's said for Spain sending Chanel.
Whoever wins Eurovision next year hopefully will do so for the above reasons and not because of a situation currently happening to them like Ukraine although that isn't their fault and I like their song "Stefania" overall as well.
