Yep, Australia watched Eurovision for years with high television ratings recorded but never actually participated in the contest until they were invited obviously.
Lots of people think that's unfair though because the country isn't in Europe the same as Israel even though their both members of the (EBU) like I previously mentioned and just forget the whole reason Eurovision was created in the first place to bring cultures together after world war two naturally.

Since it's moved beyond Europe, it should be re-titled. Worldvision, or something like that.

I do see your point, Tim. Now currently happening is the American Song Contest which is based on the same principles as Eurovision but is spread out over a number of weeks and focused on the 50 states obviously.
There was talk of an Asian song contest happening but nothing's actually come about that yet.

The big 5 countries that automatically qualify for the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest being France, Spain, Germany, The UK, and this years host country Italy have had their running orders selected identifying when exactly they'll perform next Saturday night.
France, Spain, Italy, and Germany will perform in the first half of the show with the UK in the second.
Countries drawn in the second half performing between song 13 to 18 tend to do better than ones in the first half though Norway won in 2009 with Fairytale which was song 9 that Italy have also been placed in so history could repeat itself perhaps with Brividi tipped as a possible second win for Italy already.
Spain is another top 5 possible winner so that could also do well the country having not done so for many years actually.
And the UK's entry's been well received on social media and everything considering Sam Ryder has 12 million followers on Tik Tok then.
If he is placed between the numbers I previously mentioned then we could have our best result since Blue in 2011 obviously.

The first semi-finalists for Saturday's grand final were announced last night which mum and I watched on television.
Said countries that qualified were.
🇨🇭 Switzerland: Marius Bear – “Boys Do Cry”
🇦🇲 Armenia: Rosa Linn – “Snap”
🇮🇸 Iceland: Systur – “Með hækkandi sól”
🇱🇹 Lithuania: Monika Liu – “Sentimentai”
🇵🇹 Portugal: MARO – “saudade, saudade”
🇳🇴 Norway: Subwoolfer – “Give That Wolf A Banana”
🇬🇷 Greece: Amanda Tenfjord – “Die Together”
🇺🇦 Ukraine: Kalush Orchestra – “Stefania”
🇲🇩 Moldova: Zdob și Zdub and Advahov Brothers – “Trenulețul”
🇳🇱 Netherlands: S10 – “De Diepte”.
The ones who didn't qualify which included two shock non-qualifers were.
🇦🇱 Albania: Ronela Hajati – “Sekret”
🇦🇹 Austria: LUM!X feat. Pia Maria – “Halo”
🇧🇬 Bulgaria: Intelligent Music Project – “Intention”
🇭🇷 Croatia: Mia Dimšić – “Guilty Pleasure”
🇩🇰 Denmark: REDDI – “The Show”
🇱🇻 Latvia: Citi Zēni – “Eat Your Salad”
🇸🇮 Slovenia: LPS – “Disko”
Out of the first list places I predicted 8 of 10 countries correctly with Albania and Austria my shock not getting in that was probably due to not so many jury votes especially Albania if some jurors thought their dancing and what the female singer wore was too risky.
Albania was one of my two favorite bops this year the other being Spain so it was a shame it didn't make it actually.
For them, I would've swapped Switzerland and Iceland obviously who got in due to more jury votes I think.
I'm slightly concerned for Thursday as that's the semi-final of death being stronger than semi final 1 so some of my favorites mightn't get through although I hope they do fingers crossed.

The second semi final happened yesterday evening with these 10 countries completing the grand final which mum and I will watch again.
🇧🇪 Belgium: Jérémie Makiese — “Miss You”
🇨🇿 Czech Republic: We Are Domi — “Lights Off”
🇦🇿 Azerbaijan: Nadir Rustamli — “Fade to Black”
🇵🇱 Poland: Ochman — “River”
🇫🇮 Finland: The Rasmus — “Jezebel”
🇪🇪 Estonia: Stefan — “Hope”
🇦🇺 Australia: Sheldon Riley — “Not The Same”
🇸🇪 Sweden: Cornelia Jakobs — “Hold Me Closer”
🇷🇴 Romania: WRS — “Llámame”
🇷🇸 Serbia: Konstrakta — “In corpore sano”
My favorites of the evening were the three male vocalists from Azerbaijan, Australia, and Poland who all had stunning voices like Gjon's Tears from Switzerland last year actually.
I screamed at the TV screen when their names were announced but was slightly worried Azerbaijan mightn't get in because their artist was the weakest of the three vocally plus his song only builds up at the end that may've put people of but not the case here thankfully.
There were some countries which surprised me and done well like Ireland, and Romania then.
I was sad certain people didn't make it like Ireland but the second semi final was so strong in terms of artists obviously.
The running order for the grand final Saturday which includes the big 5 countries being 25 countries in total was decided in the press conference afterward and is as follows then.
🇨🇿 Czech Republic: We Are Domi – Lights Off
🇷🇴 Romania: WRS – Llámame
🇵🇹 Portugal: MARO – Saudade, Saudade
🇫🇮 Finland: The Rasmus – Jezebel
🇨🇭 Switzerland: Marius Bear – Boys Do Cry
🇫🇷 France: Alvan & Ahez – Fulenn
🇳🇴 Norway: Subwoolfer – Give That Wolf A Banana
🇦🇲 Armenia: Rosa Linn – Snap
🇮🇹 Italy: Mahmood & Blanco – Brividi
🇪🇸 Spain: Chanel – SloMo
🇳🇱 Netherlands: S10 – De Diepte
🇺🇦 Ukraine: Kalush Orchestra – Stefania
🇩🇪 Germany: Malik Harris – Rockstars
🇱🇹 Lithuania: Monika Liu – Sentimentai
🇦🇿 Azerbaijan: Nadir Rustamli – Fade To Black
🇧🇪 Belgium: Jérémie Makiese – Miss You
🇬🇷 Greece: Amanda Georgiadi Tenfjord – Die Together
🇮🇸 Iceland: Systur – Með Hækkandi Sól
🇲🇩 Moldova: Zdob şi Zdub & Advahov Brothers – Trenulețul
🇸🇪 Sweden: Cornelia Jakobs – Hold Me Closer
🇦🇺 Australia: Sheldon Riley – Not The Same
🇬🇧 United Kingdom: Sam Ryder – SPACE MAN
🇵🇱 Poland: Ochman — “River”
🇺🇦 Ukraine: Kalush Orchestra – Stefania
🇷🇸 Serbia: Konstrakta – In Corpore Sano
🇪🇪 Estonia: Stefan – Hope
As you can tell most of the semi final 2 qualifiers got the second half including my three favorite vocalists which may help them in terms of voting as well as the UK being 22nd on who could get our best result in some years whilst the other big 4 are in the first half of the show.
We're currently second favorite to win which I thinks a bit over realistic but a top 15 or even top 10 finish would be great whatever way things turn out for the UK.
There could also be a bloodbath in terms of Sweden, Australia, the UK, Poland, and Serbia in terms of final placings all going one after the other which I don't know if the EBU done so to cancel one another out but we'll see what happens tomorrow evening.
Some Youtube commentors have already said what's the point in the contest when it's known Ukraine will win due to the current situation which I understand and do agree whichever country wins should be based on the overall package but if Ukraine does win because the of the second then congratulations to them as their song is catchy then.
My predictions on who'll make the top 12 in no particular order are as follows with Sweden coming out winning on top of course.
🇸🇪 Sweden: Cornelia Jakobs – Hold Me Closer
🇮🇹 Italy: Mahmood & Blanco – Brividi
🇪🇸 Spain: Chanel – SloMo
🇬🇧 United Kingdom: Sam Ryder – SPACE MAN
🇷🇸 Serbia: Konstrakta – In Corpore Sano
🇺🇦 Ukraine: Kalush Orchestra – Stefania
🇵🇱 Poland: Ochman — “River”
🇳🇱 Netherlands: S10 – De Diepte
🇫🇷 France: Alvan & Ahez – Fulenn
🇬🇷 Greece: Amanda Georgiadi Tenfjord – Die Together
🇳🇴 Norway: Subwoolfer – Give That Wolf A Banana
🇦🇺 Australia: Sheldon Riley – Not The Same

The grand final last night was interesting, to say the least.
Of course, the winning country was Ukraine which right now is probably deserved and a massive morale boost for them though a lot of people will argue the result was political and unfair to other participants who had a better song that should've got the prize instead, especially concerning the 439 points Ukraine scored from the public then.
It's said another country will host Eurovision next year for them which could be the UK who came runner up that no one in Britain believed would happen actually.
Most people thought Sam Ryder might come around 15th to 10th place or lower top 10 but not 2nd which hasn't happened since 2002 obviously.
Sam won the jury vote over people like Sweden, Poland, Azerbaijan, and Australia which is amazing naturally. A lot of people must've liked 'Spaceman' and Sam's such a likable guy who radiates positivity that would've helped also.
It's the 16th time in the contest the UK has placed second making us hold the record still there.
Let's hope the BBC takes this as an omen and continues sending creditable artists future wise.
There were technical issues with certain juries giving their votes when connections couldn't be made so the exec producer of the ESC gave those out inside the stadium instead.
I was shocked a lot of countries got lower public results than I thought would happen with some only receiving 2 or 3 points from the public like Australia and Azerbaijan which wasn't deserved.
My favorite male performances of the evening were the five people I spoke about before Sheldon Riley (Australia), Nadir Rustamli (Azerbaijan), Krystian Ochman (Poland), Mahmood (Italy), and our very own Sam Ryder (UK) and my top two female vocalists were Amanda Georgiadis Tenfjord (Greece) and Cornelia Jakobs (Sweden).

Watched the voting via blog and well, it'd have been a long night again. Ukraine winning shows that Europe still works, though in a musical way when the political way is disturbed.
And Germany was the last one, again. *sighs*
