Hey, I'm 11 years behind you! Not that young! I also preferred when MTV was Music Television and VH1 still existed. And not that crap what's going on now on these channels!

Me too, I used to love watching MTV in the 80s as a kid and then in the 90s when they had music shows like 120 Minutes for Alternative music and Headbanger's Ball for metal. I also loved Beavis and Butthead since they were so damn stupid, it was the funniest thing and they had great music videos on the show. The funniest videos on Beavis and Butthead was when they watched something they liked or something they hated:

I can remember the time MTV started.
Of course, here in Canada, we had our own music network called MuchMusic.

I liked it much better than MTV since they showed more music videos, especially rock videos. They also had shows where viewers could vote on what videos would be in rotation and an excellent heavy metal show hosted by a Ukrainian girl from Brooklyn. Do you get MusiquePlus in Ottawa, I watched in Montreal and liked the French music.

Ui, Milli Vanilli. Yeah, that was my time. What I also preferred on VH1 were the histories of bands they showed. That was cool. You could learn so much from them.

Yeah, I used to love those shows like Behind the Music and Legends, and the countdown shows. The best were the ones about 80s metal bands cuz they were so crazy, it’s surprising any of those guys are alive since they did so many drugs😳

I have no idea what’s on MTV and I don’t care, last time we had cable they had the show with the pregnant girls. I really miss MTV from the 90s, I loved finding new music and watching Beavis and Butthead. Then again, if I want to see music videos I watch YouTube but it’s not as fun as watching MTV and hoping they’d play your favorite,

I don't watch it anymore either. Neither do I. Only when I zap through the programmes. I miss the good old days. *sighs*

They should just change the name since YouTube has music videos. There’s MTV Classic which does show videos but it’s an add-on channel that costs extra, I’d rather just watch YouTube.

The idea of having a 24/7 music video channel was destined to become obsolete when broadband internet and online video became mainstream. Why would anyone want to wait for a music video to turn up on TV when they can just go to YouTube and watch it anytime they want? MTV served its purpose as a music video outlet in the 80s/90s/early 00s, but it would've never been able to compete in the YouTube Era.
The problem isn't that MTV abandoned music videos. It's that it abandoned music videos for shitty reality shows. The network could've Grown The Beard well had it learned from the success of shows like Beavis & Butthead and Daria and transitioned into being a network for teen shows that were edgier and more self-aware than the usual WB/CW/ABC Family fare.
But, instead, they took the cheap/lazy way and looked towards shows like Real World and Road Rules for the future of the network. Suddenly, it became all about spoiled brats and dumb twentysomethings doing stupid shit in front of a camera, with no connection to "music," whatsoever. The network completely lost everything that had previously made it special, and it has no real reason to exist anymore.
