Character History
Growing up in a family like something out of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, young Missy was taught by her degenerate father to hunt and kill those unfortunate to stumble upon their property. Sometimes, when prey was short, the Bender family would take their hunt into nearby Sioux Falls, South Dakota
In one such hunt, the Bender’s abducted Even Hanscum. Even was the sister of Donna Hanscum, an officer with the Sioux Falls police department. This led to Donna, along with Jody Mills and the Winchester boys, to investigate her brother’s disappearance.
Finally, the Bender family were tracked back to their farm, where a struggle ensued. In the end, the Bender family was defeated and captured, but, tragically, Even was killed before that happened.
Following this incident, Missy was remanded to a state psychiatric hospital, where she remained for the next eight years. During her stay in the hospital, Missy was successfully rehabilitated. Following her release from the hospital, Missy severed all ties with her family and relocated to Winfield, Kansas, to start over. She managed to get a job as a server in a restaurant there.
It was while she was working at the restaurant that, two years later, Missy would encounter Dean and Sam Winchester again. The boys had come to Winfield to investigate an unrelated case and ended up going to the restaurant in question. When Missy saw the Winchester boys, she quickly turned and fled the scene, not wanting to deal with them and the memories of her trouble past they brought up.
At that point, Dean was convinced that Missy is the source of the problem that they had come to Winfield to deal with. When he and Sam return to the hotel that they were staying in, he then called Jody Mills and told her about their encounter with Missy. Jody promised that she would look into the matter and get back to them.
While Dean was convinced that Missy was trouble, Sam was more opened minded. He and told Dean that they had no evidence to support this and were judging Missy on her actions of ten years earlier. Soon after, while Dean was out, Missy came to the hotel and told Sam her story. And Sam believed her.
When Dean returned and found Missy at the hotel, he decided to put the matter to a test. When the boys go to deal with the problem, they bring Missy along. As it turned out, she had no connection to the case they were investigating (which turned out to be a harmless spirit).
This did convince Dean that Missy had indeed left her horrible past behind her and, once they had returned to the hotel, he apologized for misjudging her. Soon after, Jody called back and confirmed Missy’s story.
At that point, Dean and Sam asked Missy if she wanted to accompany them to the Christmas party at the Roadhouse. A grateful Missy accepted the invitation.
Jody Mills and Missy kept in touch after this, as Missy was present at the Roadhouse, when Jody met with Angela Page and told her about a new group that she was putting together, called the Wayward Sisters (during this encounter, Missy told Angela about both her encounters with the Winchester boys). It was revealed that Missy had agreed to join the Wayward Sisters.
Soon after, Missy was kidnapped by Pa Bender, who had escaped from prison, and taken back to their old farm. When Missy failed to turn up at her job as a server in a restaurant, and after failed attempts to contact her at her apartment, the restaurant called Missy's emergency contact, Jody Mills.
At that time, Missy has been held captive at the Bender farm, with Pa telling her that she will pay for betraying the family. However, Missy was more resourceful than Pa realized and, slowly began working to free herself.
When Jody Mills, accompanied by Angela Page and the Winchester boys arrived on the farm, Missy was already free. Missy met up with Jody and Angela, who had snuck into the house, while Dean and Sam kept Pa busy out front. When Jody told Missy about an animated scarecrow that Pa seemed to have under his control, Missy replied that she knew what that meant. Missy then led Jody and Angela down to the basement, where they found a bunch of magical talismans. When Angela asked how the Bender’s had acquired such objects. Missy revealed that The Professor used to bring such objects to Pa Bender, from time to time, and told him to use them as he saw fit. This revelation that the Professor was connected to the Bender family was surprised to all concerned.
However, Jody then finds the artifact that Pa Bender had been using to control the scarecrow. Once it is out of his control, the scarecrow turned on Pa Bender and killed him, via decapitation.
Missy then said that she is grateful to both the Wayward Sisters and the Winchester Boys, since they had saved her from becoming like the rest of her degenerate family.
Soon after, Missy accompanied Jody and Angela to Hawaii, acting on information supplied by Lisa Cook (another member of the Wayward Sisters). They were there to investigate increased volcanic activity, which Lisa suspected was supernatural in nature. As it turned, the Hawaiian deity, Pele, was causing the activity. However, Pele was being controlled by someone else. In the end, the three woman managed to track that person down and convince him to return the magic gem that he had been using to control Pele. Once that was done, the volcanic activity stopped.
