Nice that you remember it, considering how young you were at the time.
Both whom fought Napoleon.
Would you have been allowed to watch it? Communist regimes were not exactly fans of Royalty.

It turns out there are only 500 odd steps, ascending St Paul's staircase, not 1134 which my friend corrected me on so I got that wrong then but still a lot obviously.
Weather-wise Thursday looks the best day to go. Even though it will still rain there is sunshine predicted as well plus my mechanic will come round tomorrow evening from 6:30 to take my car again and sort my dipstick that broke out so it is better to wait an extra day especially if he brings my car back later that night then.

Mum and I visited St Paul's Cathedral but had to travel back afterward because I felt ill.
The Cathedral itself with the 16th century Baroque style architecture and stone/marble memorials were nice including the stain glass windows but the narrow winding staircases leading up to the Whispering Gallery which was closed the Stone Gallery next outside, and Golden Gallery finally certainly took it out of me especially coming back down subsequent.
My legs had turned to jelly so I had to sit down a long time later. Mum didn't venture upstairs due to her age which I'm glad she never done.
There were ledges you could sit on going up and down that I partook of but I had to take my mask off due to the altitude of course.
In hindsight I shouldn't have gone up otherwise I'd have been okay but you can't do St Paul's without seeing the top so I blame myself somewhat for what happened.
Once back in our local area I felt slightly better so we both got a McDonald's before a bit of shopping afterward.
I probably wouldn't revisit because £21 is too expensive looking round a Cathedral without seeing everything but what I did see I'm glad I did at least.

Yeah, well, the price you mentioned was also the reason for me not to go in. But at least I took some pics from the outside. Can't wait for your pics!

Love to visit there myself. Another thing to do when I win the lottery.

If you ever do visit St Paul's Tim becareful of the winding staircase which goes up to the Golden Gallery because after the Whispering Gallery it's very narrow as you can see in the pictures below. I was crawling on my hands and knees kinder near the top trying to stay up and not fall down then. I probably looked well funny had you been behind me of course. A lady asked a member of staff why there was a lift that went downstairs to the Crypt area but not to the top like the Eiffel Tower. The staff member replied because of the nature of the stairs and structure of the building there couldn't be one unfortunately which was sad for people with disabilities not seeing all the Cathedral plus the Golden Gallery up top is very narrow going round in a circle meaning a wheelchair wouldn't fit so the admission price reflected on that hence why the concession fee was cheaper obviously.

That staircase looks scary.
I will be careful, if I ever have to climb them.

Same. WAY too scary for me. I'd be so scared I'd fall down.

I did enjoy the trip DC Fanatic except for going up to the top of the Cathedral which I probably wouldn't do again. For a building like that either everything has to be on the same floor or a few steps up/down for me to enjoy it or a lift must go upstairs otherwise what's the point of visiting if you don't see the whole place then. That's why if mum and I do go to Paris this summer we'll pay the extra money and go halfway up the Eiffel Tower in the lift instead of using the stairs as one it's cheaper than going to the top and you still get a good view of Paris plus it won't take it out of us as it did me St Paul's Cathedral especially mum being 75 this year naturally.

Ah damn, I forgot my pics again from my two London trips in 2006 and 2008. Don't worry, I'll post those (hopefully) tomorrow.

Mum and I visited the Ideal Home Show today at Kensington Olympia which we normally do every year.
It brings together everything associated with having an "ideal home", such as the latest inventions for the modern house, and to showcase the latest housing designs. A regular feature of the show for many years was the Ideal House Competition, where designs were invited and the winning schemes erected at the exhibition the following year.
The place's split into subsections mainly Gardens, Homewares, Food and Drink, and Innovation with lots of stalls and mock stages set up for people to see celebrities speak.
We had bought tickets to go two years prior but COVID stopped that then it was cancelled last year so our tickets were rescheduled this time around.
Afterwards we took a bus back to central London where we had dinner and then took the train home again.
