As mum and I went to see the Lion King musical in London this afternoon I thought it would nice to start a thread and comment on any theatre shows people have seen previously or go to see and what their favourites have been whether it be comedies, tragedies, musicals or operas perhaps which might be useful for anyone wondering what sort of things to watch obviously.
My review on the Lion King is positive from start to finish. The show is the animated Disney film brought to life on stage which for this performance was different than normally because it was an adapted performance for people with disabilities like autism, PTSD, sensory overload, and other things who could get up and talk as much as they liked walk around the auditorium or go to a quite area outside with some pillows around and a TV screen that allowed them to view the show there if they needed time out perhaps.
Bought as a part of mum's birthday present last year been one of her favourite animated Disney films which got delayed twice due to the pandemic we saw this version because I couldn't have seen the normal as I have fear of loud noises and get startled quite quickly from sudden movements also along with strobe lighting and blackouts that make me jump which is embarrassing in itself so this performance was okay for me as that cut out the strobe lighting and wasn't too loud or had any big bangs which also helped me.
The audience was immersed in the show with the characters walking down the middle and sides of the auditorium when performing the first song the Circle Of Life and the first song in the second half as well.
Actors were dressed up as the characters but instead of everyone being in animal costumes unlike Pumbaa and the massive Elephant at the start or the Hyena's and Giraffe people like Mufasa, Simba, Nala, and Scar had lion masks on top of their heads whilst Zazu the parrot was a puppet with the actor holding him as well as Timon also then except Rafiki the monkey who had no puppet or mask at all to reflect the characters humanity.
Everything was a visual spectacle from the props to lighting and African paint showcased on the actors bodies so if you like bright colours you'll enjoy this most heartedly.
The audience clapped in when famous songs like "Hakuna Matata" played out on stage or "I Just Can't Wait To Be King."
We purchased a program at the end as a souvenir of our trip.
I recommend people see this despite what some think of the Mouse obviously just for the sheer pleasure of watching and feeling the characters, music and staging come alive through the African planes naturally.
