I know, it shows the Ukrainian people fighting to defend their country while much of the Russian army are just doing this to get paid or not go to prison, a slave army isn’t very effective in the long run. Zelensky really shows himself to be a brave leader, staying with his people instead of fleeing.
People thought it was a joke when he became President since he’s a former comedian but he’s showing real leadership. Plus it’s significant that he’s Jewish since Eastern Europeans have a reputation for being anti-Semitic, but they’re rallying behind him and don’t care that he’s Jewish and that he’s showing himself to be a badsss leader. He could have fled but instead is joining his people and authorizing his fellow Ukrainians to fight, if the Russian army flees he ought to be nominated for a Nobel Prize

I must say I'm impressed with President Zelensky for the fact he's staying and not deserting his fellow citizens but standing beside them as a leader should actually.
He's turning into a modern-day superhero minus any powers of course.
It does disconcert me that people who've never fought before are taking up arms, especially teenagers and the elderly. But I also see why there doing it and am sure if it were any other world country the same thing would happen there.
I'm just praying for the day Putin and his mooks pay for what they've done obviously.

A modern day Winston Churchill.
The French Resistance and other such partisan groups, that operated in World War II, were made up of such people. And they made the Germans pay for occupying their homelands.

People forget that throughout history when a country is invaded, the locals gave the enemy soldiers hell if possible. North Americans are shocked to see civilians from all walks of life being armed with AK-47s to fight the Russian army, since it’s been forever since the US and Canada were attacked. Unfortunately, a lot of Americans wouldn’t be able to defend themselves like that except for the military and country people with guns. Plus some might think being attacked by Russia is a good thing, too many on the right think Putin is awesome and don’t understand why Ukrainians don’t want to be part of Russia

I can only just imagine had Trump got a second turn in the office with this happening now. God forbid the Ukrainian people.

Since many Americans are historically illiterate, they don’t realize Ukraine and Russia have a contentious history. Ukraine has been fought over by Russia, Poland and Austria for hundreds of years, plus Russia tried to eradicate the Ukrainian language and culture in their part of Ukraine. During the 30s Stalin engineered a massive famine in Ukraine that killed millions and the area saw heavy fighting during WW2, Ukrainians remember how bad Russia treated them. After all that, it’s clear why Ukrainians don’t want to be part of Russia

And they are definitely not the same people, no matter how much Putin tries to convince others that they are.

It's also historical reasoned. The Western part was under the influence of Poland and Lithuania, later the Habsburger Empire and the Easters always drawn to Moscow. Under the Soviet Regime, the land Ukraine was formed as we now know it and so the conflict is long termed.

Looks like this isn't going to be the easy conquest Putin had hoped it would be. I'm guessing he thought that Ukraine would quickly fold.
He was wrong.

So Putin’s claim that he’s protecting Russian minorities is nonsense. While there’s many ethnic Russians in Ukraine, they are Ukrainian citizens and have been there for generations and don’t want to be part of Russia. Many Ukrainians are in fact bilingual in Russian and Ukrainian and President Zelensky is a native Russian speaker from an ethnically Russian area, yet he’s fluent in Ukrainian and is showing himself to be a real badass compared to Putin

Haven't been online much lately. This news is heart-breaking. My grandparents on my father's side were born in Ukraine and my mother's side with my grandmother, before migrating to Australia after WWII, but were in Germany in 1946 after the war where my uncle was born. Both of my grandparents passed in 2013 and 2015. I've heard the horror stories from my grandparents about the 30s. And Orange Hitler is one such person. He's still singing Putin's praises No surprises. Looks like this isn't going to be the easy conquest Putin had hoped it would be. I'm guessing he thought that Ukraine would quickly fold.

Nope. It won't be. It's only going to backfire on Putin. Whatever his dream is, he ain't going to have a future after all of this is over. I know Canada has the world's third-largest Ukrainian population behind Ukraine itself and Russia. So I'm sure the community over there is in real mourning. Funny to think I might have been born in Canada, had my grandparents not went to Australia after WWII, and migrated to Canada.

Hitler made that same claim about German minorities, in other countries, in the 1930's, which he used to justify attacking those countries. Didn't wash then, won't wash now.
I think the answer is simple, Putin has lost it. He needs to be removed form power and locked up.

Putin either wants the Soviet Union back or the Russian Empire. However, time has changed and all people are free, have their own will and more - sovereignty. He can't fight with the thinking like in the 19th century.

Do you still have any family still living over there? Yeah, I'm sure Katie and Tim would know more. But doing a google search there are plenty of Canadian citizens of Ukrainian descent or Ukrainian-born people who immigrated to Canada. It's listed as the eleventh largest ethnic group in the country. Very cool fact to learn. And yes, Canada is the the world's third-largest Ukrainian population behind Ukraine itself and Russia. Self-identified Ukrainians are the plurality in several rural areas of Western Canada. I'm sure the population is going to get a HUGE increase. Won't surprise me, you guys in Canada have a migration rate going up massively with Ukrainian people in the next few months, with Ukrainian leaving the area for good due to the wars.

Couldn't agree more Tim, he's so hungry for power. Some online think he deserves to be executed for this.
