The Praxis is the state licensing exam to get a teaching license, you need it to become a full teacher. I’m a certified substitute teacher but not yet a full teacher, I’m going to take the Praxis exam to be a certified English or History teacher in middle or high school, that’s at least two or three different exams I need to take. Each exam costs $150 dollars and I need to save up the money to pay for them, my first few paychecks are going towards the bills

Yeah, we have something similar. A learning teacher has to go in classes and listens to the subject and teaching before they do it alone. Role reversal then and then completely on their own. Here it's called "Referendarium". Hard to translate.

To me, Praxis is the name of a Klingon moon!

To me, Praxis is the name of a Klingon moon! Haha, it is a weird name for the teaching exam. But I need to pass the Praxis so I can get fully certified and do my student teaching, then become a full teacher. Thing is in NJ student teachers don’t get paid during their apprenticeship so I’d have to save up money or work in a state that doesn’t have unpaid student teaching. I would like to teach in another state and eventually move out, but someone has to take care of my brother because he has autism and Mom is in her 60s

Today is Friday and I’m looking forward to the weekend, no chores for Saturday and only church Sunday morning. Unfortunately I have a dry throat because the schools have central air and insist on having it set to the lowest temperature, I have to wear my hoodie indoors 😖 Monday schools are closed in New Jersey because it’s Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement and one of the holiest days of the Jewish year. New Jersey has a large Jewish population so the schools are closed on Rosh Hashanah, Jewish New Year, and Yom Kippur

They don't up here. I guess in areas with a lot of Jewish people, the schools close for those days to accommodate Jewish students and teachers who can’t go to school on those days. In New Jersey, students can take days off for religious holidays and have them be excused, they don’t count as regular absences. That includes a lot of different religions, so a pagan student can take off for Beltane or a Muslim student for Eid-al-Adha, the Muslim New Year

I went to elementary school in the 80s and high school in the 90s so I remember when only Christian holidays we had off, the Jewish kids wouldn’t come to school Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, which meant that a lot of kids didn’t come to school on those days. I guess the state government decided to just close schools on those days if so many kids are going to be absent.

I don't think we have that in New Zealand, but then I haven't been in high school since the 00s, so I'm not sure if its changed. I just know the Christian one Good Friday is always a day off for the kids and depending on where you live Easter Monday.

Yeah, my school time was from 1983 to 1995. Started under complete different circumstances (behind the Iron Curtain) and ended with an opportunity to study.

I can just imagine your early studies.
Those nice Russians, who nearly destroyed your country in 1945 (and are resuming that old habit in Ukraine now), were your friends.
